I don't see it as bad but we need to polish the usability with the sizes and styles of the letters and those things.
As for the logo, it wouldn't be bad to have a contest to present proposals VS the current one and let people vote if they decide to keep the one we have now or if we change.
In my opinion the current logo doesn't integrate correctly and if we're going to change things, it would be better to revamp the logo.
It may seem off topic but the logo and the future style of the forum should go hand in hand.
-
It's complicated, but I've always liked the forum's aesthetics for years. The changes I would make are the ones already mentioned to better take advantage of the screen size that almost everyone uses (recent posts and so on).
-
I could get used to this new style, but I like the old one much better… Sorry

Bring back the classic forum! However, thanks for the initiative :sisi:
Best regards!

I agree with Sylver, I love the old style, I didn't know anything and I had to check that it was in hardlimit.
-
I admit I'm a bit surprised.
On the one hand, I understand that the "classic" style is the hallmark of the forum since it has been around for a long time and it is very difficult to find a similar one (mainly because it is a paid style). So, for that part, I understand that they want to keep it. Moreover, keeping it will save me a lot of hours (and money) since the idea of upgrading to vBulletin 4 or 5 is already ruled out.
On the other hand, the surprise comes from the fact that a hardware community, accustomed to seeing big changes every now and then, is so conservative in certain aspects.
Personally, I like the classic style. When I enter, I feel at home. With the new style, that feeling of being "at home" disappears. But I also think it's an old-fashioned aesthetic quite far from current trends, which doesn't stop having a austere aspect with that table format and right angles from another era.
The poll will remain open until next Sunday, but to make the change, I think there should be a clear majority in favor of the change and that's something that probably won't happen.
I make mine the idea of Fassou and Espinetenbolas regarding the logo, so I will call for a contest so that you can submit any design that you find interesting.
Regarding the new features, the sidebar is not going to be possible for the moment. I don't know what's going on with the classic style that doesn't allow it. At another time, I will review all the code to see what might be happening.
The albums feature will be available again soon.
From now on, I will also start working on giving the cover a look that matches the forum.
Now you should all be seeing the classic style. If not, let me know.
*Historical note: Hardlimit has changed its look several times since it was born. The current look was established in 2006 and since then there have been hardly any changes.
In 2002 it looked like this:
In 2003 it changed:
And in 2005 it debuted the current style although with a slightly different logo:

I don't know, I don't get the feeling of an outdated design except for the logo and it also gives it a great personality. What I don't like is when you search the internet and end up seeing a few forums that have the same design and only changing the logo, which doesn't happen with Hardlimit, I think I only found one forum with the same theme. -
I believe that change is good because everything can be improved and because the world and fashions change.
What is not good is to change for the sake of changing or to change something for the worse... that is common sense.
Honestly, seeing the results of the polls (which have also surprised me) I would go down the middle road and modify the forum trying to maintain the characteristic colors (so it's not too neutral), improving usability and of course adding the new functions... and since I don't see a consensus on the width, a "bed up bed down" button for those who want to put the forum wide and everyone happy.

As for the logo, I think it should be clear what the forum's design will be, otherwise it will look forced instead of integrated.
An example of good integration is the logo of H2M: www.hard2mano.com
It is blurred into a solid background and not a huge logo, just like its colors integrate into the forum where everything matches.
I say this because a logo or a style may be very cool at first glance, but when you put them together you may find a WTF! from three pairs of noses and that happens to Noticias 3D… it's suitable for the cover but then in the forum it looks like an afterthought and besides the forum's design is not very polished.
Obviously, tastes differ, but it must be clear that if the design is not integrated, it will be noticed and that is not good.

I love seeing it like this, it's what you say cobito, it makes you feel at home, in family :sisi:
I sign up for the logo contest, I'll come up with something tacky

Best regards!

Well I disagree with all of you :troll:
I think that a forum "up to date" in technology has to be renewed from time to time and give a more modern and attractive image. We are becoming very conservative in everything (even in hardware) we just need to talk about how before for 2000 pesetas you could buy a fancy graphics card …
The new style maintains a lot of the essence of the forum and updates it to more modern lines. I like it.
The new style of Hard2mano also seems very attractive to me …
-
The thing is that I don't get the impression of old or outdated design, what happens is that we have been seeing it for a long time and perhaps it seems that way.
I am not against updating and modernizing, but always when it is going to be better, and I must admit that this web design thing has some skill. I have been spending a couple of days recovering data from my old blogs through archive.org and it has made me remember the many times I changed the designs, because I was not satisfied with the templates that existed and I had to make changes to all of them, with almost no knowledge of web programming. It is a world.
-
Well, I think it's obvious that the forum design had become outdated, it's normal after so many years, I understand that many of you are melancholic but I vote for renewing the style for something more minimalist, with a fixed width and that unifies a bit the design of the cover and the forum.
Greetings!

I like the new one, it gives the forum a youthful and more modern feel
