Zotac's VR backpack PC
-
The first virtual reality gadgets of dubious utility and a rather bleak future appear.
It is a PC backpack to connect a virtual reality headset. The utility: not having cables to facilitate movement when using the headset. And the obsolescence: when the way to use RF to connect the headset to a desktop PC appears. It has powerful hardware, although not cutting-edge: a four-core i7 processor whose model is not known, a GTX 1070, an extractable battery, a 2.5" drive (to choose between mechanical and SSD) and the typical connections of a desktop computer. Or what is the same: a vitaminized laptop with two straps. According to what they tell in Anandtech, the CPU-GPU tandem has a TDP of 150W which is the same as a GTX 1070, so it is difficult to extrapolate the processor model and the doubt arises as to whether the central components of the system have been toned down to be able to cool them adequately in such a reduced volume. There are also no battery specifications but with that consumption it must have a considerable size to have an acceptable autonomy. Without a published price but with four figures assured, it seems to be a product aimed exclusively at virtual reality enthusiasts with a well-nourished wallet.

For remembering things that started in a similar way.

And they go for this.
