LibreOffice 5.3 incorporates the MS Office interface

I think it's a very good option. I'm one of those who didn't get along with the ribbon, however over time I've gotten used to it. I currently use WPS Office on both Windows and Linux, both at home and at work, and it uses ribbon-style menus. If I haven't been using LibreOffice lately, it's because on Windows with a mechanical disk it seems too heavy to me, and at work I have a Core 2 Duo, plus it was doing something strange. I hope they improve these last points over time.

The spell checker is quite sad, with adverbs it's a real joke. That being said, LibreOffice fixes it pretty well, things as they are.

Indeed @whoololon, as a tool for getting by or sporadic use, it is ideal. But I don't see it for 24/7 or professional use.

I use it professionally because 99% of the time I use it with calc, the spreadsheet. Except for one supplier who uses macros from office 2003 for their order sheet, and it is only compatible with this version of office, everything else I do with libreoffice.

I hardly ever use the text editor or any other program in the suite, so it serves me to get by.

PD: Shit of office macros, and shit of outlook.

I also use LibreOffice (Still), but you need to have a VM with various versions of Office because there's always some file that messes everything up.

@kynes well, precisely, macros are one of the weighty reasons (very weighty, in fact) that keep me in Office. I use three main macros daily in my text documents and without them I would lose more than half an hour on each document, when the macro does it automatically in 2 seconds. I am freelance and my time is gold.

@Nemo Yes, yes I use them too, but at the same time it's a pain that version compatibility breaks in Office versions, and I have to have a 2002 program installed because of a single document.

I know there are people who make a very good living in consulting solely by knowing how to make macros in Excel.

I think it's a good move. I've never understood people who don't like ribbon. The first version of office I used was 97 and it was a mess. Much later I started using Vim and discovered the modal text editors. When I first tried ribbon it seemed similar to the modal design of Vim and I liked it. Leaving aside the technical aspect, Libreoffice is a mess visually. It literally follows an interface from the era of Windows 95 and that in software is pathetic.

Now I hardly use office software but I hope they keep it this way. With such a horrible interface it will never reach the masses.

By the way, since I've registered I'll take advantage: I liked the design of DPLinux better but at least now there's a forum.

Well, I think the blog has improved quite a bit visually. Before it only had the default theme and a logo that was not very well done. But to each their own.

The people at LO have christened all this aspect stuff the name of Muffin. They have even done a sociological study to launch this brand. A shame that Spain is not included.
