NAS Thecus 5500. Sell or not?
-
Hello:
Well, I managed to fix this NAS that had the dom broken. I bought a new one from Thecus' website and that's it. Now the question is whether to sell it, or get a 6tb drive, move everything I have to that drive, mount the 1tb drives that I now have in raid5 on the NAS, and use it for torrent downloads and DLNA server with serviio.
If I sell it, I can get two 6tb drives to set up a mirror raid and keep the data safe if something happens, or just buy one 6tb drive and with freesync sync the PC on the NAS. Yes, I'm a backup maniac. Everything I have at the company is on a PC, on the NAS and in the cloud.
What would you do? -
I'm a bit lost. So these are the options:
- You have two 1Tb hard drives in the NAS and you would buy another 6Tb one.
- You sell the NAS with the two 1Tb drives and you buy two 6Tb drives that will be in a PC, right?
I just love NAS, I have a Synology that's simpler than that Thecus and I love having it there with its data without being on a PC that I use. That way I have access from more places without problems and as it only goes to sleep if it does nothing it spends a shit.

Personally, if it works well, it's something that works very well and the expansion is simple.
I would keep it, let's go. -
I didn't explain myself well: I have 5 1tb drives in raid 5 on the pc. The question was:- If I got one of 6tb and moved the 1tb ones to the nas and set up the same raid 5 and as I'm a bit of a backup maniac I would do the same with the 6tb one and have it on the NAS, at least the important stuff, which is photos, documents and programs. I don't care about the rest of the series or movies;
- Or sell the NAS and with the money get two of 6tb, which on amazon UK are a bit cheaper than in Spain (about 30€ less). The 6tb drive is already bought, because I remove things from the case, and especially noise (the hds make a harmonic that drives me crazy), and I'm going to change the power supply fan on the NAS, which is 4cm, for another that makes less noise and works the same, because the noise the Sunon makes is interesting. I'll also put a torrent server and serviio on it, which has a module for the Thecus.

I don't know what price you can get for the NAS and what data capacity you need, but I still find it very attractive to have a NAS separate from the PC.
