Today, the undisputed kings of mobile telephony are Android and iPhone. Both offer everything most users need except one thing: privacy.

        No.
This of hiding behind a good (excuse) cause to sell phones, like the FairPhone, disgusts me exceedingly.
A universal OS for portable devices. The rest is a hassle for me.

@whoololon From my point of view, having a hardware device that allows you to use any operating system is something that is missing. Having a universal system is great and in fact it is practically what exists today. But when I buy a phone, I can't install what I want and if I don't want to take too many risks and I want all the hardware to work at 100%, I am forced to use the factory ROM along with all its junk.

Those who buy things from Purism know what they want. They already do with their laptops and if there is interest from the people, they will do it with their phones. They are not aimed precisely at a segment of the population ignorant of technology who are captivated by pretty words, but at a niche of Linux users with a certain level of knowledge who know exactly what they want and how they want it.

It has a high price and when the sale comes out it will have obsolete hardware, just like it happens with their laptops. But I am absolutely convinced that no one who buys that phone (knowing more or less what they are buying) will complain about that. These people make money with their gadgets, but their goal is not to deceive people with cheap nonsense or to get rich with smoke (I hope they don't change the philosophy they have followed so far).

And it should be noted that I don't get a commission. I just think it's an interesting project that can interest a few tens of thousands of people in the world who at the moment don't have what they are looking for.

The funding goal has already been reached the funding goal has been reached. Now we just have to wait and see how this all materializes.
