Hello guys, how are you ??

Let's see if you can give me some clues: I have a Toshiba Satellite and for the past couple of days it's as if the VGA output had perished.

I have reinstalled the OS (Windows 7 SP1); I have updated the BIOS and loaded the default options; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers; I have changed the screen resolutions; I have prayed to the Virgin... no, the screen connected via VGA “does not start”.

The strange thing is that the OS detects and installs the correct monitor model and its recommended resolution, but it leaves it in standby, black screen/orange led.

I can only think that a pin on the VGA connector has been damaged, which would be very unfortunate.

Any ideas? Thank you very much.

      Best regards!

If you always connect the same monitor, check the pins on the monitor connector to see if they are loose

Hello guys, thanks for responding ?!

I have tried the laptop with different cables, and also with other monitors... nothing, same behavior: Monitor perfectly recognized, but in standby.

It's a bit strange. I guess it will be the VGA connector of the laptop, I can't think of anything else to be honest.

            Best regards!

You just have to try one thing, which was one of the first things you should have tried because it is the way to activate that external output ?

It changes depending on the brand and model of the laptop, but in general there is usually a key with a function to switch between "laptop screen only", "laptop + external output" or "external output only (vga)".

It is normal for it to be indicated on it at the bottom (it is probably F2 or another nearby one) and it is activated by combining it with the function key (Fn).

              You let us know

              Cheers!

Have you tried installing the video drivers provided by Toshiba or the manufacturer? Sometimes the ones that Windows installs do not have all the features even though they detect the installed graphics well, I once had something like this at work, I had no video on the external monitor via VGA.

Hello, sorry for the delay ?!

Yes, I tried the key thing at the time, and also the software way, installing the Toshiba drivers, but nothing.

Looking more closely at the VGA connector, I get the feeling that one of the pins is "dented". Maybe that's why it recognizes the screen, but doesn't activate it.

I've been looking around on Google, and it seems that this failure with the VGA is quite common in laptops, which is not a consolation.

Anyway, thanks for your help, but I think I'm giving up ?.

                  Best regards!

@albridi Another option you have is to look for a USB to VGA and that's it buddy!
