Hello, I hope you're doing well. I'm writing this post to ask for help with what happened to me, as I don't understand much about technology, and I would like to know your opinions on the matter.

Well, let me tell you what happened. I had a Gigabyte RTX 2060 Windforce OC 6GB, which burned out while I was playing PlanetSide 2 (which isn't a very demanding game, but still). I took the card apart and saw that on the video outputs, where the capacitors and such are, there was a damaged integrated circuit or mosfet... ?
I understand that with luck, this can be fixed, but I'm not sure if I can find someone to fix it in my country and if it's worth it directly... anyway, what I basically want to ask is for your guidance on what could have happened, what caused it...

I'm not sure if it helps, but my pc was as follows:

      CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
SSD: WD Blue 3D Nand 500GB
      HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 2018
      RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix RGB DDR4 a 3000MHz
      MBD : Gigabyte ga-a320m-s2h
FdP: Gigabyte b700h 80 plus bronze
And the graphics card, the one I mentioned before

The first thing that happened was that I bought a new MBD (Motherboard) because I felt it was the only thing missing to be on par with the rest (I mean quality perhaps) so I bought an MSI b450 gaming plus max at My Store (because it was much cheaper and above all with good reputation) I changed it and everything worked normally but a week later things started to happen, the graphics card was almost always used at 100% and made strange noises, as well as a constant hum when the temperature increased (it passed 80ºC, according to MSI Afterburner, even with good cooling in the case...) and after a short time, one day while playing PES 2021 (another game that isn't demanding and still raised more than 80ºC), I smelled something burning but the pc continued as if nothing... the next day I checked it and in the new MBD there was a burning smell coming from the DVI-D input... obviously I couldn't understand what happened, if the motherboard came faulty or if something bad was happening with the electrical part, so as a precaution and with great sadness I put back the one I had before...

Now, with the old motherboard, the graphics card didn't make noises when raising temperature, but it almost always reached the same values 80ºC+ and 100%, it continued like this for a while until it started making noises in this motherboard too... (I must say that before putting the new motherboard, everything was working perfectly or at least that's what I remember) and well what happened after was what I mentioned above, I was just playing and suddenly the pc seemed to suspend, it started to short-circuit and I smelled the typical burning smell and well there I saw that the graphics card had burned out... it had 1 year and 3 months of use... the worst part is that for those 3 months the warranty doesn't cover it, it's the most painful thing but well, if you could give me your opinion on what could have happened I would appreciate it very much or if I have to change something before putting a new graphics card (something I don't know when I'll get as they are excessively expensive here) but anyway, I would appreciate your responses and apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you very much in advance!

      Regards

Edited: I hope this can be done, I'm adding an image of what burned and the sound the card made (https://ibb.co/R2wdkG0, https://www.audiopal.com//pickup/?message_id=3357)

It's complicated to know why your card has burned out, most likely it had some defect in its construction. But well, what you care about is finding the solution and from my point of view it's complicated. The normal thing is that you would look for some electronics store in your country (I don't know where you are from) and they would give you a quote. It's clear that it would be cheaper to repair it than to buy a new one, with prices as they are today.
So, look for a reliable store, preferably go in person, they will tell you how much the repair would cost and evaluate if it's worth it.

If not, unfortunately, it's most likely that you will have to buy one in the second-hand market.

        Best regards.

@_Neptunno_ Hello, thank you very much for your response. I was finally able to get someone (who I think is reliable, since a well-known local PC building page gave me the contact) to repair it. I'm from Uruguay, and I had to send it because I live far away, in a small town. I sent them a picture and described the noise it was making. They said the noise was very bad and that they could already tell that the component was about to explode (which is visible in the picture). Now they have to check it and see if it took other components with it. The worst part would be if it damaged the tracks when it exploded... it would be almost impossible to fix. It's a shame, really. The worst part is that I always kept it clean ? but anyway, so, that's advice for everyone, if you hear strange noises in your video card or any other component, get it checked out!! (especially if it's something expensive)

          Thanks in advance

          Best regards!

@Inminent Sometimes GPUs or CPUs emit a kind of "electrical" sound that I can't remember the reason for, but it's not always a sign that something is going to be damaged. The thing is that maybe the sound you heard could be from some other component, but well, to be honest, I think you had bad luck since I have a GTX670 Gigabyte from 2012 and it's still working.

I think in Uruguay there is a Youtuber called Superio whose channel is Zona de Hardware and he teaches some fixes, etc. Surely he would also know how to repair your graphics ?

You will already tell us how this adventure ends, I hope for the best.

            Greetings!
