Hello friends. As you know those of you who know me around here, I love overclocking, but now it's quite a challenge to order the components and assemble a proper liquid cooling system, not a kit. I have already made up my mind, for sure, for the new i9 core of Alder Lake, I was going to assemble a Ryzen, but it seems that Intel has improved a lot. Although I have read that it is 125W which makes me doubt if in a laptop due to the cooling issue I might have problems. Out of laziness, I have the option of having it assembled for me and that's it. But the doubt itself and I would like your opinion, is whether I opt for a tower or a laptop with that processor. I will use it 24H, with chess programs, so the cooling of a tower is much better, although the heat dissipation in laptops has also improved a lot. What do you think?

        Hello very much @jordiqui

Personally, I'm more of a desktop (tower) person, I like being able to tinker or replace components in a couple of minutes if necessary or if I feel like changing. The thing is, if you're interested in being able to move around the house, use it on the couch, in bed, take it on a trip, etc., or if you prefer to have it fixed in the same place always. In each case, one or the other will suit you better.
Obviously the cooling of a personally chosen desktop will always be better than the standard cooling of a laptop, but nowadays they are quite optimized as you mentioned.

What is clear is that the market is quite high in prices, and the issue of assembling a desktop by parts is giving us quite a headache for some of us. Especially the issue of graphics... Against this, there are quite decent laptops at contained prices and with quite good characteristics.

In the end, it would all be about weighing the issue of moving it from place to place and whether you prefer to tinker with it or not, because I doubt you'll lack performance with a processor.

        ¡Greetings!

@jordiqui Tower without a doubt. If you want to upgrade CPU or GPU, MoBo, etc., you do it quickly. On the laptop, you are forced to change it all.

          Best regards.

Hello companions, I burst out laughing when I walked into one of the most well-known stores and configured an I Tower for myself. The tower is very important to me and almost 300 euros for an obsidian one... and without a graphics card. Although chess programs now do use some of the cores of the graphics cards, it's still not relevant and you can always buy it later. But the prices of the graphics cards are tremendous. In total, with DDR5 (32Gb), a 4 gen 2 TB PCi-EX HD, the windows, the alder Lakke which I think is reasonably priced because before it would have cost a thousand and now you can get it for 600+ euros, you're looking at almost three thousand euros with the liquid cooling. They haven't come out with laptops or I haven't seen them, although MSI has announced them with the 12th generation. Of course, after so many years I don't have a monitor, that's another thing, I want a monitor not a plasma of 30 and some inches. But in the monitor section, what appears to me are what I consider to be televisions, UHD, and I don't know what else. So after years of struggling, the truth is, I'm selling a flat and as soon as I get paid on February 20th, I'll buy the pc. But I'm not going to waste money, because it seems crazy to me to pay more than 3000€ for a graphics card. Anyway, I won't go on any longer. But it will be a tower, because after all I will be overclocking and I like to tinker as much as many of you do. I'm not very clear about the DDR5 memory in terms of efficiency and performance, although the bandwidths are monstrous compared to what I had to deal with when I was into this hobby. Well, when I have the equipment set up, I'll take some photos and join the bandwagon again. A very strong hug to everyone and a happy new year.

@rmc1982 That's right. That's why it will be a tower. What a pain they give me with the tower, but I always used obsidian and I stick with it, but it's about 260 euros I think. Although there will be cheaper ones, I have always considered a tower an essential part. Many people buy small towers and spend a thousand euros on a processor. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

Although I'm late in sharing, I bought a gaming laptop and eventually had to change it to a desktop. Because, regardless of what people say, gaming is better on a desktop. It heats up less and has better performance from my point of view, of course.
