Alan Wake II on GNU/Linux
-
Hello, everyone.
I'm not the most active user on the Hardlimit forum, but I've been in the community for about 2 years or so, and today I wanted to share how I can run the new Alan Wake II, a game only available on PC through the Epic Store, and which is not entirely trivial to run on GNU/Linux.As you can see on the PeerTube channel I have on Hardlimit, I'm doing a series of the video game in direct launched from my linux distro, Nobara Linux 38.

The first thing I recommend doing is installing Heroic Games Launcher, it's an unofficial launcher where we can access the GOG, Epic Games, and Prime Gaming stores and have our game library there. Additionally, we can have games or other launchers installed manually.
-
Well, once the launcher is downloaded or installed, we go to the store, buy the game (if you're not a pirate... XD) and install it. Here's the first disclaimer, use WineGE and not ProtonGE, with the latter I have image problems...

-
The second thing is that we have to do some things in winetricks...

-
We click it and a menu will appear, we select «Select the default wineprefix», then we select «Install a Windows DLL or component» and there will be a large number of dlls to install. We select «d3dcompiler_43», «d3dcompiler_47» and «vcrun2022».

-
With this, we should be able to run the game if our hardware allows it... It's a very demanding game that undoubtedly sets a new standard in the industry...

That's it. I know that most people in this forum don't need something so detailed, but I always wonder if I'm explaining it well or if I'm missing something... Anyway, greetings.

- It's important that, from Heroic, activate the Epic overlay (EOS Overlay) for it to work and also so that achievements are updated, you can access the Epic console, see your contacts, etc...

@Fassou I think you are more concerned about the more than 250 videos of more than an hour that I have on https://video.hardlimit.com

And that's because I deleted about 50 not long ago, I had more than 300...
-
Don't worry. There's someone out there with over 2200 videos where most have 0 views. You at least have a decent audience.

@pos_yo great contribution, it's always good to be able to count on this type of information to learn and/or to enjoy other alternatives to play that are not on Windows

I really enjoyed Alan Wake 1, although I went through moments of pure tension... what a setting and very good gameplay. I'll give it to 2 when it comes out (preferably with a discount lol) but I think I'll have to play it during the day xD
Greetings!!
