In this version of Nodebb, a new feature was announced to display embedded videos in federated threads from Peertube. It was supposed to take effect for new threads (old ones stay as they are). But I just ran a test and it still doesn't work (I'm reporting it now).
The new update is that federated threads do appear in unread threads when there are new messages, which gives them visibility, for example, when someone comments.
Maybe I should add a link to the video and another to the forum in the video summary so it's clear where things come from on both sides?

I think that would have cleared things up for me (or at least achieved what I wanted). I didn't understand why there were new threads in some videos I watched, and not in others.

The concept isn't new and is similar to email: it relies on a standard (Activitypub) that allows various servers to communicate with each other. For example, if you have a Gmail account, you can send emails to someone with a Hotmail account and vice versa by specifying the username @ server. They are different servers, with their own rules, but they share a protocol.
This means that any user from another federated service can communicate with you in a similar way, using your username @ server. For example, I'm not replying to you from the forum, but from the Peertube video ( ). You'll see that my username in the reply isn't cobito but @cobito@video.hardlimit.com. It's a different user on a different server. Similarly, from Peertube's perspective, you aren't krampak; you are @krampak@foro.hardlimit.com. If you click the link to the video I posted, you'll be able to see this same conversation on the Peertube video. And just as forum messages appear on the video, any messages someone leaves on the video will appear on the forum.To enable this interaction, what NodeBB calls a cross-post is created. It simply consists of anchoring a Fediverse element to the forum. What @HIAL-9000 does is exactly that: they find the video, create the cross-post, and it appears as if it were a forum thread, but it's actually not a forum thread; it's from the Peertube instance. From a technical standpoint, you can see the difference in the Topic ID (tid) in the URL. A standard NodeBB thread has a numerical value.
