Hard drive enclosure
-
Hi to anyone reading this.
I have a question. I've seen and been browsing on Google that there are devices used to connect and disconnect hard drives while the PC is on, but not via USB,
Is there any device where you can simply connect a desktop or laptop hard drive
and preferably one that also has an IDE connection?
The problem is that I have hard drives from many years ago and I have a dedicated PC for them with an IDE connector, but I also have newer ones with SATA. I have an adapter to access them via USB cable, but I can only use them one at a time and it's very slow.
If anyone knows more about this topic and could let me know.
Thank you very much. -
@cinusara With the PC turned on, USB is the best option.
Obviously, USB 3.0 and above. Hot-plugging with other types of connections will bring you nothing but problems.
There are docks that allow you to connect multiple drives at once, and some even come with autonomous copying functions between slots and other features (each extra function adds quite a bit to the price).
If you also need IDE, what you can find will likely be from Asian online stores that have niche adapters for every possible need, but it falls into the lottery category when it comes to performance and reliability.
Cheers!

@Fassou Thanks for replying, and after checking, you're right, I need to install a USB 3.0 adapter.
Thanks.
