There has been no space-time rupture that has transported us to the golden era of AMD when the K7 and K8 competed head to head (even surpassing) Netburst, one of Intel's greatest engineering failures.
AMD rescues the names to label a new range of APUs that will use the AM1 socket that introduces a new concept that they have called "System in a Socket".
They will be composed of 4 "Jaguar" cores in the case of the Athlons and 2 in the case of the Semprons and AMD graphics with DX11.2, OpenGL 4.3 and hardware video encoding/decoding with VCE and UVD respectively.
This new range aims to compete with Intel's Bay Trails, the micros destined for x86 tablets, small laptops and other low-power devices, but with a fairly decent performance.

Anything that is competition is good for users. For a long time, at least I, saw Intel as too "overkill", and the battlefield of low power is more interesting these days. Let's see how it materializes.

How nice, it's been a long time since I've seen news like this. I had some Athlon and Sempron models a while ago and I think I'll opt for one of them in the future
