Plan renove X6 1100T
-
Hello,
I need to make a "plan renove" for a computer that will be used mainly for gaming at 1650x1050. The idea is for it to last a few years.
Microprocessor:
I know an SB would be better but for the price it's pretty good and having 6 cores ensures that games that make better use of multithreading will run better. The idea is to set it to 4Ghz (I understand that almost all reach this) 24/7 with a good heatsink.
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Six-Core Black Edition 179€
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Six-Core Black Edition HDE00ZFBGRBOX Processor
Microprocessor heatsink:
I have assembled a TRUE120 and the feeling of quality and subsequent performance makes me decide for Thermalright again. I hope it is compatible with the memory and that it reaches 4ghz with good temps.
Thermalright Archon CPU Cooler 55.95€Thermalright Archon CPU Cooler ARCHON Fan/Cooler
Motherboard:
Looking for something compatible with AM3+ in case the microprocessor needs to be updated in the future without changing the platform (Bulldozer). With SATA3, USB 3.0, 2 PCIe x16 sockets to do crossfire in the future when the graphics card becomes a bit short.
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ 137€
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
Memory:
The idea is a 2X4 GB kit to have two sockets in case it needs to be expanded in the future. It must be at 1600mhz because the Phenom II does not support more without OC (I believe), and the latency CL7 would be the best but I have not found any kit that meets what I ask for, so CL8 will be fine.
G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL8 58.95€
G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL8 F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM DDR3 Memory
Graphics card:
It should be mid-to-high range and around 200€. The Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dual Fan 1GB GDDR5 seems perfect to me and also comes with a game. Needless to say, the 2GB version would be unnecessary for the resolution it will be used at.
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dual Fan 1GB GDDR5 199€
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dual Fan 1GB GDDR5 + Dirt3 11188-09-20G Graphics Card
Power supply:
To hold everything, the generic 500W power supply will have to be discarded and thinking about a future crossfire and expansions, according to the page eXtreme Outer Vision - eXtreme tools for computer enthusiasts recommends a 650W power supply. I think the most appropriate is a 750W one so that the power supply is a bit loose. Modular would be a good option as fewer cables mean more order and better ventilation. I don't want to spend much on the power supply but I ask for a minimum of quality.
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular 93€ (It has red leds
I hope the computer doesn't look like a nightclub)OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular OCZ750FTY Power Supply
What do you think? I accept suggestions.
Best regards!

I don't know what your budget limit is, but many times it's better to spend a little more and it will last "that time you have in mind".
I would go for an i5 2500k or simply 2500 if the OC you have in mind is 4.0Ghz, but you're almost safe with the K.
Honestly, the X6 loses a lot compared to the i5, even though it has two extra cores, which doesn't really make a difference in games.
Regarding the graphics, I would go for the 2GB one, because it's possible that the GB that this HD6950 has will be short for you sooner, than having 4 cores instead of 6.
I have the model you mentioned, but with 2 GB and using your resolution, and in several tests I did I easily used more than 1GB.
That said, don't ask me what game it was, because I don't even remember xDRegards!!
P.D: If you're still set on the X6, I would still recommend the HD6950 2GB

-
Hello and welcome, here you have the 1100t for 170€ AMD - LevelPC
But I would change to a 2500k before these amd now or that or wait a couple of months to see if the bulldozer come out and how they go.

But I have the impression that even though right now the 1100t might perform a little less, it has more future. To give you an example, do you remember that before an E8400 was better for gaming than a Q6600 because it was a dual core that overclocked well and with better architecture than the E6600 (where the Q6600 comes from)? That was back then, now a Q6600 will be better because applications make better use of 2 cores. I don't know if I explained myself.
For the 2500k (194€), what motherboard do you recommend? That it has USB 3.0, SATA3, Crossfire (if both sockets go to X16 better, although I think X8 is enough). From what I've read the chipset must be the P67 to overclock.
I see so many models of motherboard that I can't decide. I also have the impression that motherboards for intel are more expensive than for AMD... -
I think you're much better off with this than AMD, now that you want to put the 1100t and a motherboard with 990fx, it's a possibility to be able to put a bulldozer later on.

Intel has always been more expensive than AMD, sometimes they have given better results and other times less, although I am pro AMD (too bad for Cirix and company), I can tell you that the comps are right, either you buy an Intel or you wait for the new AMDs (which I hope will be very good), only you decide: something good as of today or something that is coming and we will see... :mudo:
PD in the matter of cards... Intel used tri-channel, that is paid for, I think today they are going for four-channel, that is paid for but... it is something like this (and I don't like the ball foot :D:D) being a daredevil or a coward :mudo: ¿nvidia or ati? -
+1 to an i5. If you are looking for price and do not want OC a 2400, leaving aside integrated SATA 3 with an H61 motherboard (such as the ASRock iCafe) is not expensive, although I would stick with an ASRock P67 Pro3 if you do not want multiGPU + 2500K with a thermalright HR-02.The prices are as follows:
2400 (175) - iCafe (65) = 240
If you go to an AMD it would be an AM3+ which is 100 euros in motherboard (970A-UD3 for example), and it would be best to wait for the Bulldozer (which is still to come), if not at most the 955 at 105€ to get by, or even an Athlon II x3 of 70 euros to change it quickly for a Bulldozer if you are in a hurry, with the consequent extra cost :rollani:
2500K (195) - P67 Pro3 (95) - HR-02 (40) = 330In the case of wanting multiGPU we would be talking about about 40€ more in motherboard at least in the case of Intel (P67 Extreme 4) and a slightly more expensive power supply, a couple of 6870s are really pulling a lot and it does not come out very expensive. At LevelPC they have the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 at 100€ that would allow you to plug in 2 graphics cards, a very good price that could justify the purchase of an AM3 micro in the case of wanting it already.
-
So, I was looking for an AM3+ motherboard because I want to upgrade it in a few years by getting an 8-core bulldozer and with crossfire, so I can buy another hd6950 and keep going. Of course, these purchases will probably be on the second-hand market.
The problem is that they say bulldozer will have lower IPC than Phenom II, which although it will compensate with high frequencies, it won't be a bomb. And I admit that the FX-8120, which they say will cost around $200, doesn't look bad. But I'm afraid of being the guinea pig for a new platform, as people suffered with the first Phenon I and the famous intel chipset problem that appeared a few months ago.
Honestly, if I get the 2500k spending a little more, I would go for a slightly cheaper motherboard. I don't know which chipset is better for OC, if the Z68 or the P67, I rule out the H67 because I don't need integrated. But seeing that the Z68 has the characteristics of both and looking for a motherboard with x8 crossfire support, etc., I like this one:
Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 Motherboard
Plus, it's cheaper than the AM3+, so it compensates for the extra cost of the micro. What do you think?
Another thing, is the HR-02 better than the Archon? It's cheaper and that's a point in its favor ?
Regarding whether it's urgent or not... I'd like to order it this week.

saludos

The Macho is not better than the Archon but it is cheaper and is enough for a 2500K.
The Gigabyte you put is a D, the UD ones are tougher. I would get at least the Extreme4 P67, Z68 if you are not interested in the integrated one it does not add anything important.

+1 to this option if you have to change your PC now and want to go for an AMD, I built for a friend a 450 x3 with a 6850 at the beginning of the year and that processor performs very well... especially looking at the price :D.
-
+1 to this option if you have to switch PCs now and want to go for an AMD, I built a 450 x3 with a 6850 for a friend earlier this year and that processor performs very well... especially considering the price :D.
But the thing is to get something this week that will last a couple of years or so, and then as I imagine what will become small will be the graphics card, so I'll get another one for Crossfire and give it a boost.

For €100 you have the 990XA which is slightly better than the 970 or for €117 the FXA.

With a Corsair TX650 it would already be enough for this machine, unless in the future you want to do an SLI of the 560TI. I wouldn't change the rest.

Yes, I put it on purpose because he commented something about a future SLI.
