Hello, I'm new to the forum. I bought an AMD athlon for a laptop 3 months ago, which is supposed to be dual-core, but when I took it to install it, I was told that the bios was outdated, so I suspected that I had been scammed. I know I shouldn't have bought one without knowing if it's compatible, but I tried to find out as much as possible and it seems like it is, although everyone gets scammed at least once. Can you help me see if it's dual-core and if I can put it in a Compaq presario cq56-102la that has a sempron v140?

Post the details that are above in small print, read them yourself if you can and write them here, let's see if we can deduce something, it's an AM2 socket and by the looks of it it could be an Athlon x2 (dual core)...

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, the Athlon X2s have the top made of a uniform solid metal block and they are not like that one, which looks more like the Athlon XP... Although if it's from a laptop I wouldn't know how to tell you...
If it comes from a desktop PC it could be an Athlon 64...

          Regards

OK, in the bar below it only says AMD Athlon TM but it told me that it doesn't matter

It has numbers on the top left that say 29882

In the black bar at the top it says the following combinations NOTE: I'm not sure if it's 0 or O

            AMQL60DAM22GG 9439918J81518
0BALB BA 0839CAM THEN LIKE M AND C IN A CIRCLE AND THEN 2007 AMD
DIFFUSED IN GERMANY MADE IN CHINA

I HOPE IT HELPS YOU AND THANK YOU

It seems that they are two different versions of the same socket.
The Athlon 64x2 is Socket S1 (S1g2) from 2008 and the V140 is Socket S1 (S1g4) from 2010, they may be changes in voltage management and they seem to be backward compatible, but I couldn't be sure.

                  Best regards

Yes, Google confirms it in several references, indeed it seems to be a Athlon 64 x2 for laptops, they didn't cheat you.

In theory, this Compaq supports these micros, according to what I found around:

                                  AMD V-160 processor (2.4 GHz, 512-MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore 25 W

                                  AMD V140 processor (2.3 GHz, 512-MB, L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—singlecore25 W

                                  AMD Athlon II N370 processor (2.5 GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)–dual-core 35 W

                                  AMD Athlon II N350 processor (2.4 GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—dual-core 35 W

                                  AMD Athlon II P360 processor (2.3 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 3.6 GT/s)—dual-core 25W

                                  AMD Athlon II P340 processor (2.2 GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—dual-core 25 W

                                  AMD Athlon II P320 processor (2.1 GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz, 3.2 GT/s)—dual-core 25 W
