      Hello friends, look the other day as some of you know I bought an 5850 and removed my asus 9800gtx from my computer which was working perfectly.

      I sold the asus to a guy and when it arrived he told me it wasn't working and that it had some lines on the screen. The graphics card was working perfectly for me, so I thought it was a problem with his computer, so I'm wondering if you can help me fix it. At first he said he just connected a cable and that the graphics card has 2 power cables, so I'm not sure if that's the problem. His computer is as follows:

      MOTHERBOARD ASROCK G31M-GS

      1. LGA 775 for Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme / Core™ 2 Quad / Core™ 2 Duo / Pentium® Dual Core / Celeron® Dual Core /
      Celeron® Dual Core /
      supporting Penryn Quad Core Yorkfield and Dual Core Wolfdale processors
      2. Intel® G31+ ICH7 Chipsets

      • Compatible with all FSB1600/1333/1066/800/533MHz CPUs
      • Supports Dual Channel DDR2 800/667/533, 2 x DIMM slots, Max. capacity up to 8GB

        @lolly:

        Hola amigos, mira el otro día como algunos sabéis compré una 5850 y saqué de mi ordenador la asus 9800gtx que funcionaba perfecta.

        Le vendo la asus a un chico y cuando le llega me dice que no le funciona que le salen rallitas, la gráfica a mi me iba perfecta para mi que es cosa de su ordenador, a ver si me podéis ayudar para que yo se lo solucione, así de primeras me dice que el solo ha conectado un cable y esa gráfica lleva 2 de corriente no se si vendrá por ahí el problema. su ordenador es el siguiente :

        PPLACA BASE ASROCK G31M-GS

        Muchísimas gracias de antemano

        una 9800 con una fuente generica cutre? eso no va a ir bien ni por casualidad y eso en el mejor de los casos. poniéndose en lo peor esa fuente puede dar mal el voltaje y joder la gráfica.

        te recomiendo que se lo expliques (en las instrucciones de la 9800 pondrá que necesita una fuente mejor segurísimo) y no admitas una devolución bajo ningún concepto.

          @incrediboy:

          a 9800 with a cheap generic power supply? that's not going to work well by any chance and that's in the best case scenario. in the worst case, that power supply could give the wrong voltage and mess up the graphics.

          i recommend that you explain it to them (the instructions for the 9800 will surely say that it needs a better power supply) and do not accept a return under any circumstances.

          Hi mate, i'm the one who has the graphics card now. And i assure you that if the graphics card was working fine, it still is. And for more info, i just connected it and saw the stripes, so i captured the screen. and i turned off the pc and took out (the graphics card) to prevent any further issues. but anyway, i've been looking, and the easiest thing is to buy a 600w power supply. And see if with this one the graphics card can work 100% fine.

          Regarding the pc issue, i'll forget about the power supply, since i'm going to change it. How do you see the rest of the pc? Could it work well? or do you recommend changing something? considering my short economy since i'm unemployed. Regards.

          And sorry for the long post xD

            You don't say what micro you have, but seeing the board and with 2GB of memory, you won't be able to fully take advantage of the graphics.

            Anyway, can you put the model of micro, source and memory you have to give us a better idea?

            Salu2!

            PD: use the CPU-Z and for the source, better a photo of the side sticker.

              I already looked at it, mate, and the fault is the "damn" POWER SUPPLY. It doesn't give the necessary amps that the graphics card asks for at least, so I'll have to change the power supply.

              And regarding the micro, it's a bit old and I know that with current games I won't be able to play. Since I won't be throwing myself at them.
              But anyway, everything is already looked at so that in the not too distant future I can change the micro and memory. And I'll change the power supply this coming week… we'll see how it works.

                  that processor is not a "core2duo" as lolly said above, it's an "intel pentium dual core", an e5300 to be more exact

                    I told lolly that, and since I'm not very knowledgeable about the subject... I bought the pc and this is what came with it.

                    Could I possibly run said graphics card on my pc? I know I wouldn't use it to its full potential, but next month I'll put another micro and more ram in it.

                    Guide me a little please.

                      with that micro the graphics card would do very little bottlenecking, so there's no need to worry. what's lacking for gaming is the RAM, it would run much better with 4gb.

                        I can buy that without any problems, next week the power supply will arrive, I'll get a 650W one from pccomponentes.

                        And the ram, as soon as I can I'll get the 8gig ones. So if that would be enough, I would be very happy.

                        Because in January I'm planning to change the micro SI O SI

                          which PSU are you going to get?

                          about getting 8gb… for gaming 4gb is enough, you wouldn't notice the difference between 4 and 8

                            Ok well we'll see what happens once I get the PSU and put in the RAM…

                            the PSU I want to put in would be this Cooler Master GX 550W V2 RS-550-ACAAD3-EU PSU (I confused myself it's 550w)

                            considering that the graphics card asks for 26Amp how would that work?

                            EDIT: I've already seen the opinion and they don't recommend it but whatever…

                            Any PSU that doesn't skyrocket in price no more than 80€ since a unemployed person's economy isn't very high... what would you advise?

                                Besides, my pc doesn't have much decoration, it only has a fan on the lateral door, to power the motherboard a floppy drive and the hard drive. Nothing more.

                                I will put another fan to cool the cpu a little more but not much. So it is most likely that it can hold up to everything hehe

                                    any decent 500w or more power supply will do fine and have plenty of power. by decent power supplies I mean brands like ocz, corsair, coolermaster, bequiet, seasonic, silverstone…

                                      It's more than enough, a couple of fans don't compromise the power supply at all, and your computer isn't a power hog, anyway here's a page where you can calculate exactly the power you need by entering the components you have:

                                      eXtreme Power Supply Calculator

                                      Regards

                                      Ok mate I'll buy the one you've put me on to as it's not sky-high in price and I can buy it next week. I'll comment on how it went with the PC.

                                      @incrediboy:

                                      any decent power supply of 500w or more will be fine and will have plenty of power. by decent power supplies I mean brands like ocz, corsair, coolermaster, bequiet, seasonic, silverstone…

                                      I understand you now mate, I'll buy the power supply the forum user told me a few lines above. And next week I'll put my impression here to see how it went. Regards and thanks for all the trouble

                                            they are not incompatible, the person I sold one of those cards to as second hand has a 9800 installed and so far 0 problems.
