hello how are you. I bought an asus a53s laptop yesterday with an i7 and 4gb of ram. I installed win 7 ultimate 64 and I see it often runs jerky, it doesn't run as smoothly as it should. my previous dual core ran better. I'm thinking of changing it (it's from mediamarkt). what tests can I run to rule out software or hardware issues? ram test, processor test, hd test? tell me something please. thanks!

firefox, explorer, office, installation programs… in general. I don't know if I should put linux on it to see if it works better but I need win for my job. damn. it cost me 600e. for 50e more I had the hp dv6 i7 also. I don't know if it's better. I hope I don't have to change it. what a pain!!!

So it will be on the same desktop. It will be a matter of graphic drivers…

after formatting I installed all the latest drivers for everything. from the graphics I see there are like 2 graphics, one from intel and another from nvidia. I don't know if that's the problem mmmm

Interestingly, not long ago, in this same forum, a person with a similar problem posted, you have to disable the graphics on the motherboard so that the other one "kicks in".

It's the Optimus system from Nvidia, what it does is deactivate the Nvidia when you're not using it and thus saves battery by using the integrated (Intel) and when you play video or play games the Nvidia is activated offering more performance.
I don't know exactly if it will need some driver or specific configuration for that, it's a matter of looking at the Bios.
                    Regards.

oh, I usually keep the PC always connected to the power outlet so I think I'll disable the intel graphics (I'll leave only the nvidia, the good one I think!) I do this from the bios? I'm saying this in case I install linux later so I don't have any problems. thanks!

Hello, it's me again. I've been working on it all afternoon, and I see that it gets stuck the same way, it's not a graphics issue, I get the (Application not responding) message very often. I let it pass a few seconds and then it starts up again, but hey, I have a dual core at home and it doesn't happen that often, we're talking about an i7 here! puff, any ideas? I don't know if I should change it (I'm still on time, if mediamarkt doesn't throw anything at me), the only thing I removed was the windows home that came with it for an ultimate, but I don't think they should have said anything about that, the hardware keeps the plastics and everything. There was a HP dv6 for about 60€ more, also with an i7 but with an ATI graphics card, do you see it as a better option? My girlfriend has an HP pavilion and she's very happy with it, before we were doing tests to start up office (she with hers and I with my i7), and it started up faster for her than for me (it's a centrino duo from 4 or 5 years ago). Aiiish, so frustrating... ? aaaanimos preciso!

The problem comes from the change of software, because with the operating system that came by default you didn't experience those problems, right?
I think it's a driver problem, but who knows which ones…
Try going back to the previous operating system or to another different one, it doesn't have to be Linux. Make sure you have all the drivers installed, correct and up to date, and then you'll see if you have problems or not.

PD: In my opinion, I highlight that HP makes good laptops and my experience with the pavilions is quite positive so far. With this I don't suggest the change, but I corroborate the good comment you make about the HPs.

                          Greetings

If I tell you the truth, I didn't try the OS that came with the PC. I was sure that I needed a Windows that wasn't home for work-related reasons, I work in IT... If it's a matter of drivers, mmm, who knows what it could be, right? I'm in a bind. I don't know whether to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64 (the one I have), Ubuntu, or change it for another laptop (I've read that HPs have ventilation problems), if they would even change it for me... aishh:/

Reinstall the 7, although if you can put the 32-bit version, see how it goes. It is true that HPs get pretty hot, but not much more than other laptops, with a good cooling pad there is no problem. Regards

I don't know if the support has improved, but Linux didn't get along well with Nvidia's Optimus technology.
A forum veteran, I think it was Rules, had problems with it, if I remember correctly, it didn't recognize the Nvidia card, only the Intel one.
I hope you can restore the laptop to its factory state, because otherwise you might have problems if you decide to change it.

                                Best regards

oh, well look I got the asus and not the hp, -they were next to each other- because I thought…if it has nvidia it will work better with linux.... bam, in my face. Is there no way to completely disable intel? through the bios? mine is a mess. by the way, they sell laptops without cd's now I see, at least this one doesn't have the windows one or the drivers one or anything, long live life. most likely this afternoon I'll try to put win 32 on it, as with 4gb of ram it will stay for a while because I doubt it's that... with 32 I have more than enough, right? even if it's an i7? thanks

If it continues to give you problems, return it as you should still be within the time frame, even if you decide to keep it and it gives you problems again, take it under warranty.

In the bios we have to have the switchable option activated so that it uses either the nvidia or the integrated; then apart from the drivers; we can tell it from the Nvidia panel which programs will use the GPU.
