Hello. I want to register a domain at no-ip.org. I want it to point to the IP of a dynamic IP host running the no-ip client the same way I have it now with midominio.no-ip.org but with midominio.com.

I have no idea how all this works. Because there are 3 ways:

      1. Plus Managed DNS Recommended [Dynamic DNS Support, Anycasted DNS, Port 80 Redirection, Multiple Hosts ]

      2. Backup DNS [You run your own DNS server and need backup DNS]

      3. Limited DNS [One host, no dynamic dns or port 80 redirection] (Included only with Domain Registration)

What are all those terms related to DNS?

I thought that DNS was a server that resolved the IP corresponding to a domain. In option 2 for example, how come I would have to run my own DNS server?

      I don't understand.

On the other hand, I want a personalized email address like contacto@midominio.com. No-ip charges me $10 for forwarding or for a 100 Mb account. I wanted to know if it's possible to set up all this mess so that emails sent to contacto@midominio.com go to a free Gmail account without having to hire the forwarding or the no-ip email account.

Now with midominio.no-i.org it allows me to configure something related to email called MX Priority but I have no idea what it is.

      Thanks.

For mail issues, hire a hosting with mail, which is cheaper and simpler, but if you have to have online services, you can always hire a Private IP (~12€/month).

          Salu2!

PD: Explain a little what you want to do, because probably the solutions no-ip.org, are not your best option.

I want to have a host (a raspi to be more precise) providing different services. In general, the free service of no-ip.org works well for me, but I want to have a personalized email address (with my own domain) and already use that domain to access the raspi services.

With option 3, you get a simple dynamic DNS, associating your IP to the domain, without changing ports or anything. The 2, you are not interested in, and the 1 is the one with the most options, but you probably won't get much out of it.

About the mail, the most convenient thing is that they give you the hosting of the mailboxes.

And with the 3, the domain will always point to the host's IP, even if it changes, as long as the no-ip client is running, right?

Finally I hired the domain at no-ip. But it does not appear in the list of hosts so I can not update the IP with the no-ip client. When I go to "Manage hosts" I get the second-level domains that I have (dominio.no-ip.org) and the first-level domain that I have acquired that appears as *.midominio.com. I thought that there would have to be some way to create subdomains in the style of subdominio.midominio.com or Domain registration and web hosting - Internet Masters and so perhaps they will appear in the list of hosts of the client but I do not know how to do it and the documentation available is quite poor.

Does anyone know anything about this?

It is likely that if you want subdomains, they will charge you extra, given the way that service operates.

However, you can't just use folders (e.g., midominio.com/cliente).

                      Best regards!

Yes, but what I want is for midominio.com to point to my dynamic IP. I don't care about the subdomain. I mentioned it because I thought that was the way to get my domain to appear in the DUC's list of hosts.

EDITED: Well, mystery solved (via ticket). It turns out that the plan I signed up for doesn't allow what I want and that if I want to use DUC, I have to cough up an extra $18. Pfft, what a bummer. The only thing I can do is redirect my top-level domain to a free subdomain from no-ip.org that will only be used for the web.

Have you tried redirecting your domain to one of your domains no-ip.org, which you update through the application, just to see what happens? Salu2! PD: I can't believe there's no option to assign the app update to a full domain.

On their website, they state that the free subdomains xxxxxx.no-ip.org can be used for any service, because they only dynamically direct to the IP, and you only depend on the configuration of your router to have those ports accessible.

Regarding the ticket, I understand that they offer you the possibility of directing subdomains of your own domain to different IPs, and perhaps that is what you wanted to do initially, but I would make sure first, because it seems very strange to me that it is only good for the web.

                              Regards!
