Fedora and OpenSUSE are saying goodbye to MySQL
-
The popular distributions Fedora and OpenSUSE, will abandon MySQL as their default database management system (DBMS), in favor of MariaDB.
Initially, support for MySQL will be maintained, which will be progressively abandoned.
Oracle :ffu:, has already communicated effusively to the leaders of both projects, that they are making a big mistake.
Salu2!

But it's a fork, so compatibility with all the themes that were for mysql is very good. It's not a too traumatic change.
That said, whoever chose the name MariaDB should be slapped :osvaisacagar:
It inspires an overwhelming trust :ugly:
PD: as far as I know chackra is also joining.

What a blow for Oracle. I've been worried about the future of Virtual Box for a while.
The open source community in general and Linux in particular has lost a lot with the disappearance of Sun.

Yes, for now OpenOffice has been saved thanks to Apache on one hand and LibreOffice on the other, and now this fork of MySQL, but the issue of VirtualBox I don't know how it will go, and it's a tool that I also use occasionally.
If Oracle says that those distributions are wrong, it's because they know nothing about free software.
