    Doubt about NAS

Hello, I am looking for a NAS to set up at home. In principle, what I am looking for is the following:

      • The ability to store photos/videos (currently 100gb)
      • The ability to save project files (2 or 3 gb)

Other features that I would like but are not essential are:

      • Time Machine (I already have an external USB hard drive dedicated to this function)
      • Torrent download manager (if it's good... otherwise it's not essential)

In principle, this satisfies me with a Western Digital LIVE that meets the 4 characteristics since it comes with an RJ45 connection so I connect it directly to the router (I believe it's a 100mb/s port, not gigabit...) and with a 2TB hard drive it costs 124€ a pretty good price.
The problem I see with this product is that every time I want to transfer photos to said disk, I first have to download them to my macbook (hard drive of 5400...) and from there transfer them to the hard drive over the network... if it's 500mb it's fine but when I transfer 2 or 3 gb it will take some time.

So I had thought about a Western Digital Studio or similar... that has a USB or card reader
PROS: the ability to copy photos or files directly to the disk
CONS: in order to do anything, it has to be connected to a pc/mac

Then I saw devices like QNAP that go up to 200€ plus disks, so putting 2 disks of 1tb each would take me to 340 or 350€... these gadgets are a "hybrid" of the 2 types mentioned above because they have different inputs to be able to put usb's... cards etc... plus access via network

Let's see if someone can enlighten me/give me a hand with the choice.
      Any suggestions?

The WD-LiveTV HUB has 2 USB 2.0 ports (and supports WiFi), so it still works.
Edit: The 2 TB one is around 270€.

Check out the Synology. I've put 3 of them (two-hard-drive model DS212) in several companies and they work great. In these cases I haven't needed "home" functions, but they are veryyy complete and easy to use.

And never ever buy an Acer no matter how cheap they make it seem to you.

This is more focused on a media center, right? To have it on the TV, right? I want it more for storing files… more for storage apart from that 270€ is too much for me... a lot

              Thanks

These two-hard-drive ones... have always attracted me because I believe in raid 1... but I understand it's software raid... not hardware... so if something happens to the "gadget"... everything can go to the trash, right? Does anyone know anything about this topic???

                Thanks :wall:

I was already surprised, because those two models are media players, while for a personal cloud storage, the closest thing WD has is the MyBook series.
                  Sorry for the misunderstanding. ?
