Give a third life to my PC (Q6600)
-
Hello everyone. I'm trying to give a third life to my PC () and it turns out that I find a forum where, in the middle of 2013, they recommend my Q6600…...just imagine my surprise!.
I bought it about 7 years ago and I gave it a tune-up about 4 years ago......this is how it is now:- Motherboard.... GIGABYTE Ga-965p-Ds3/s3........http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2456#ov
- Processor….. q6600 4 Quad a 2,4.
- Graphics.....GIGABYTE GV-N250ZL-1GI........General - GV-N250ZL-1GI - GeForce GTS 250 - Chipset GeForce 200 Series - VGA - GIGABYTE
- Fan piece…...Asus V72 4 Heat Pipes.......http://www.asus.com/Thermal_Solution/V72/
- Power supply…..Be quiet 650
- 4x RAM Kingston DDR2 800
I was thinking about buying a SAMSUNG EVO 840 250 Gb., because from everything I've read, it's what I think would give it the most life. But do you think it would be better to change the graphics card?, would any of those in this thread work for me?.
The motherboard accepts 8 Gb of RAM, but it's sky-high, besides I'm a newbie at 64 bytes and I don't know if I would notice it too much for my use (office work, internet, videos, games (Halflive, Medieval Total War.....I'm not a gamer, but when HL3 comes out I'll change my equipment.....jejejeje.....to STEAMOs?......jejjeje). And finally the OC. With my PC configuration and a moderate OC (because of little knowledge) how much do you think I could gain? 25%?.
Sorry for the long paragraph but it was a high to find you all. Thank you in advance for any comments. -
GIGABYTE Ga-965p-Ds3/s3........http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2456#ov
- Procesador….. q6600 4 Quad a 2,4.
- Gráfica.....GIGABYTE GV-N250ZL-1GI........General - GV-N250ZL-1GI - GeForce GTS 250 - Chipset GeForce 200 Series - VGA - GIGABYTE
- Pedazo ventilador…...Asus V72 4 Heat Pipes.......http://www.asus.com/Thermal_Solution/V72/
- Fuente…..Be quiet 650
- 4x RAM Kingston DDR2 800
Saludos

I also have a Q6600 that's about 7 years old. If you tell me you're not much of a gamer, I would try to buy the SSD, which would also be useful in case you finally decide to change the whole computer. You can tell the difference. I did it when my Crucial M4 128mb cost more than 200 euros and I can say it's one of the best investments I've made.
The motherboard you have has a slightly old chipset, but its counterpart at Asus was good for overclocking, so I don't think you'll have any problems making a 400x8 (3200mhz) without raising the voltage or even lowering it.
I'm a lover of O.C. with undervolt. You get more performance with less temperature and less consumption.Definitely, I would give it a third youth with the new SSD and with a little O.C.
Considering the memory, for the price and its usefulness in the future, I think it's not profitable.Regards

The thing is that you should sell the computer now while you still have time, and with the money you get and the money you have saved, you should buy a more current one, with a decent graphics card and above all a processor that comfortably supports said graphics card.
+1 :sisi:

Hello and thank you very much for your reply!
Sylver and Fassou, I have never sold a computer (how much could I ask for this one? £300?). I am considering buying a new computer, but only when one of these two circumstances occurs:- They release Halflive 3. PC to play this with quality. What do you think?
- They release SteamOS. Steammachine to play this with quality... and to show console players what graphics are... hehe. What do you think?
Lobisman what percentage of improvement would you give to the hard drive installation? And to the OC?
I am very new to OC. Do you recommend a guide? Programs?
Thanks again.
PD: I wanted to post my message in a post about graphics cards... I don't know how I ended up with full configurations:facepalm: -

From my experience, with the company's PC#1 I've had good gaming sessions from time to time on BF3, CS:S and MTA:SA.
If you're not a heavy gamer like me, you can still get good use out of it with slightly better graphics. If you want to be able to play future games decently, it probably won't be enough anymore,

I will ask you later about a good configuration.

You got to Full Configurations by magic, it often happens in this forum, it has been commented for years that it is enchanted…

Just kidding, as I said, it was likely that a moderator moved it to a new branch, and this time it corresponded in Full Configurations

If it had been a new post, it wouldn't have been moved, but since you posted it as a response to another post about graphics, we had to use the scalpel
