NAS bbb
-
I'm looking for a decent NAS for file server, I want something good, nice and cheap, if you have any suggestions, I appreciate it. It will be used for backups of linux/osx/windows also from dropbox, p2p downloads, media server connected to plex/xbmc and itunes library. I wanted to spend about 200€, although I think my budget will be short.
At first, I would go for the known Synology without being the lowest range like DS114, the ideal one would be the 214play but I'm not sure if it's worth it (although I think it will be my Christmas self-gift...).
Opinions?

It has finally arrived, the 114, and I'm setting it up. For now, Plex doesn't support armv7, so I'll wait to test it, although I don't have high hopes. I have a question, I wonder if you know where to look. On Windows 8, it automatically detects the device but the smb server doesn't appear, that is, only the nas icon appears to access the admin but not as a file server. If I put the IP, it accesses but if I put the name, it doesn't detect it... I've messed around with the firewalls but I don't know what it could be, any ideas? It works perfectly on mac. I think I remember that in Windows Vista and later, you had to activate an option to see the shared folders of other computers. Go into 'Network' and see if you get a message saying that network folder detection is turned off.

No, it's enabled, the truth is that I've looked everywhere… I hate these Windows stories :frio: anyway now I have to see what I use to sync with Linux.
For the moment I've tried downloading torrents, the media server without transcoding (divx and hd mkv work) and the transcoding of mkv with its app for the iPad works very well too. I've also set up synchronization with dropbox, Time Machine and now I was trying with remote access but I can't get it to work with DDNS... anyway I don't know if it's the router's fault.
Anyway, highly recommended, too bad that there's no software compatible with the new ARM.
