Before restoration**Before starting the iOS restoration, it's important to keep some basic recommendations in mind. First, make sure that the battery charge is not low, ideally more than 80%. Also, check that you are connected to the Internet (necessary for iOS download). Finally, it's essential that you have a backup (copy) of your data because the restoration erases all the information that is on your device, such as: photos, documents, videos, messages, etc.
Make a backup
- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. If you need to update, download the latest version.
- Connect your device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) to the computer using the USB cable that comes with the product;
- Run iTunes and wait for the device to be recognized;
- In iTunes, select File >> Devices perform backup;
- With the right mouse button, select your device in the list and select “back up”;
- Wait for the backup to complete;
- To find out if the backup was completed successfully, go to “Preferences” in iTunes and in the “Devices” tab, check the creation date and time of the backup.
Restore system to factory settings
After running the backup of your data, it's time to do the iOS system restore safely. But before proceeding, it's important that you verify that the current version of your iOS is 7 or higher. If so, you must disable the “activation” function on your mobile device. To do this, on the device, go to “Settings” and disable iCloud > “activation lock”.
Once this is done, follow these steps to do a factory system restoration:
- Connect your device to the computer using the cable that comes with it (if not already connected);
- Run iTunes;
- Once iTunes recognizes the device, open the “Summary” tab and click on “restore”;
- A confirmation window will open informing you that all data on the device will be deleted. Click on “restore and update” to confirm. At this point, you must be connected to the Internet, so iTunes can download the iOS to restore the device;
- Wait until the restoration is complete. This can take several minutes.
After iOS restoration
When the restoration is complete, the device will restart and a welcome screen will appear.
Now follow the steps in the iOS setup assistant. When the installation is complete, you can reconnect the device to the computer and use iTunes to restore the backup you made earlier and recover your personal data. Here's how.
Restore the backup
- Connect your device to the computer that has the backup;
- Run iTunes;
- Select file >> restore devices from backup;
- Select your device and click on “restore”;
- Wait for it to finish.
Error messages during restoration
If after following the previous recommendations you receive error messages during the restoration, do the following:
- Make sure that the iTunes software is up to date with the latest version;
- Note if your computer (Mac or PC) is up to date with the latest operating system updates;
- Check that your antivirus program or firewall is not blocking access to Apple servers;
- Disconnect any USB devices from your computer;
- Restart the computer and try again.
In case of more error messages, look for an authorized Apple service.:wall:
