Upgrade a laptop cpu, what do I put?

Hello everyone!! Long time no see :)!
You see, I have an Asus U31F, which is now 4 years old, with these characteristics:
Intel i3 380M socket G1 (rPGA988A)
Intel HM55 chipset
4GB DDR3 1333
256 SAMSUNG SSD
8-cell batteryThe thing is that it works extremely well, the battery lasts me more than 6 hours and it weighs little, it works great for going to university, but sometimes the CPU is a bit short.
I was thinking of upgrading it, and consulting the Asus website I see that it was also sold with an i5 460M, so I am considering the possibility of getting one from ebay and changing it, they are around 35€.
My doubt is that maybe I could also put an i7, it has an Intel HM55 chipset, and consulting this website, it says that several i7 models could also be put in, which are also well priced on ebay.
Do you think I could put an i7? Which exact model would you recommend?

35€ is little, but it is not known if you will notice a difference in performance that compensates for the work of dismantling it and consumption will increase. They will all be dual-core, if you change perhaps go to the i7 with double the frequency. And you could not jump to the next generation because it is not compatible.

The thing about laptops is that the more powerful they are, the less "portable" they are.
Balance the battery and the heat dissipation capacity you have with the power you want to put into it. I would stick with that i5.Edit: Or you can go the long way and buy a new laptop.

I've already looked into the consumption issue, it's supposed that all the ones I'm looking at are 35W, so they should consume the same.
Here I've been given a pretty good answer and it's that since they're from the same family and W, if the bios has the necessary code, which asus usually does, it should work without any problems, but the i7s are pretty expensive.

Yes, yes, of course it will work for you, there is no doubt about that. The list you provided does not have your CPU, it has the UL, yours has 400MHz less than the i7 in its range, so for such a minimal difference I wouldn't even consider removing a screw. The only thing is about the turbo, but it's just a promotional thing. Regarding the difference in consumption, more MHz means more consumption is proportional regardless of the TDP, if it's double then the consumption will not be double but a good percentage, now, with such a minimal difference you won't notice anything in performance or consumption.

This is the thing there... I have located an i7 620m for 45€, do you think it's worth it? I am very interested in the fact that it has VT-d, since I have some virtual machines running on my laptop!
