      Hello everyone;

      Well, you see, my computer is failing me, I don't know if it's a motherboard issue, but when I connect a 2TB external 2.5" hard drive, it turns on but doesn't start the operating system, it's as if it gets stuck reading, what could it be?
      If I remove it all works fine.

      It's not a power supply issue, I've tested it, and everything, it must be something with the motherboard, and I've been looking at several boards that are the same as mine, to see the manual or buy a new one or maybe a second-hand one like that.

      If I connect a 32GB USB before booting it works fine, but if I connect the 2TB one it fails, and it doesn't start the Windows XP system, it was the same in Windows 7.

      The thing is that if I disconnect the 2TB drive, I let everything go fine, and when I enter Windows XP and connect the 2TB external hard drive, it connects fine, but it won't let me start it while it's connected.

        When you say it won't start, what exactly does it do? Do you get any error messages? Does it get stuck on any particular screen? The most likely thing at first glance is that it's trying to boot from the external hard drive and since it doesn't have an operating system, it gets stuck. You would have to connect it, restart and enter the BIOS and check that the boot order / device priority is correct.

        P.D.: Is the disk USB 2.0 or 3.0?

          I was able to verify that same problem years ago on a server that had an external HDD connected via USB (2.0) to back up copies occasionally, and if it ever restarted, it would get stuck with a black screen and wouldn't do a POST, nor could you even enter the BIOS.

          After many tests, in the end the only solution was to disconnect it for the boot and reconnect it afterwards. So they put in a NAS ?

          Salu2!

            It's exactly what Fassou says. I always had this problem on my old Athlon64 3000+.

            If you leave the external drive connected when Windows XP starts up, the system tries to read it or something like that, but the thing is, it never starts up. You just have to unplug it, start up and connect it when you're already on the desktop ?

            Best regards!
