Hello everyone! I have some money saved up and for Christmas I am looking for a projector to watch movies. After doing some research I have seen the technical differences between DLP and LCD but nowhere do they give a conclusion on which one is better. I emphasize that it is only for watching movies. Nothing about presentations and things like that. I do not like at all the rainbow effect that I have seen in the university projectors so DLP does not convince me. I still do not have a fixed budget. First I want to get informed and then I will do the economic calculations. Thank you!

I'm not an expert on projectors, but from what I know and have seen around, LCD is better than DLP in:
        · Contrast
        · Black levels

DLP is better than LCD in:
        · Response time
        · Convergence of primary colors
        · Sealed image chip from the outside, which prevents dirt and the need for air filters
        · The image does not degrade over time (debatable)

If you are bothered by the rainbow effect, I wouldn't take a chance with a DLP. An LCD will offer you a slightly better image quality. Check out the Epson EH-TW5300, it seems to be recommended for cinema and it's LCD.

Well I get the idea. What is the difference between the Epson EH-TW5300 and the Epson EH-TW5350? The 5350 is much more expensive and I don't see any advantage over the 5300.

The most notable ones I see are these 2:
The TW5350 gives 15000 lumens in eco mode while the TW5300 gives 1500.
The lamp of the TW5350 gives 75000 hours of service in eco mode while the one of the TW5300 only 6500.

I think you're wrong @krampak. On the Epson page both have the same specifications: 5300 and 5350. I just bought the 5300 from MediaMarkt which was at a good price. I told them that on the website it was available in 2 or 3 days and they told me in the store that if it said that on the website it would be in that time. I hope they don't pull a fast one on me. I was already annoyed that after spending almost 700€ on the projector and an HDMI cable they charged me 5 miserable cents for the bag. Couldn't they have given it to me for free after that expense?

According to the technical data sheets ( EH-TW5300, EH-TW5350 ) they are almost identical, but the second one adds connectivity improvements (WiFi, Miracast...).

Well that's true... what a crappy comparison site I looked at. Here's what Fassou says:

"You might be interested to know that there’s a £599 variant on the EH-TW5300, the EH-TW5350, which adds Wi-Fi Direct and Miracast to the connectivity options, as well as the ability to control the projector via the Epson iProjector iOS/Android app." (taken from trustedreviews)

I have to say that the projector arrived much earlier than expected. I've had it for two weeks but I couldn't test it properly until this weekend. I think it's a good purchase. It has better image quality than I expected. It took me a few days to adjust the values to my liking but the result is pretty good. The only downside I have is the aperture response time. It turns out that it has a mechanical element that lets in more or less light depending on the brightness of the scene. That improves the blacks but it takes a long time to respond and sometimes causes unwanted effects especially in credit titles that appear and fade away on a black background. Also, it's 3D and I didn't know that but the glasses cost a fortune. I'll leave you a picture:

The vertical stripes are from the screen that is a bit wrinkled. Let's see how I can remove those wrinkles.

Like the krampak lias. I had given you a positive vote and after seeing fail I threw to correct it with a negative but, it seems that there is no middle term, I have to choose between positive or negative. What do we do now? Cobitoooo ¬¬
