The attempt to smuggle in 2000€ phones
-
It seems that there is a special effort on the part of Samsung to release a phone with a price that is getting closer and closer to €2000. Apple has already put the brakes on the price escalation and stayed at €1000.

This has been going on for millennia. Before it was jewelry and now it's phones. It's just a status symbol. Most people who buy these phones do so to put it on the table when they are at social events. Apple seems to have found the right point where the phone is not cheap enough for anyone to have it but not expensive enough for most people to have one if they really want it. -
It is also their way of differentiating themselves from Chinese manufacturers, releasing models with exclusive designs, new materials... in order to have a niche and create a brand image, and all of that costs a lot of money in development and components. Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and other Chinese brands can do a lot of damage, and they don't want to end up like other previously leading brands like Blackberry, Nokia or Sony. Before you had brands that innovated a lot like HTC, and nobody remembers them anymore.
