M.B problem. BIOS corrupted?
-
Well, it's a bit CNI
A family member asked me what it could be.
Sometimes the PC doesn't start
Other times only half the keyboard works
Other times the screen is black
Other times it indicates a corrupt BIOS
The BIOS has been reset
The SSD has been run through HD Tune and there's no error
In BIOS it shows the CPU temperature as 9 degrees
The voltages in BIOS for the CPU fluctuate between 0.9 and 1.1
I was recommended to update the BIOS.
The other possibility that comes to mind is that it's the F.A. I know that you could check the output voltage with a multimeter, but I can't remember how.
Any other ideas?
Thanks and regards

@clipper
Download the manual and all the available info.
Put a new battery in the bios.
Look for a tutorial on measuring DC voltage with multimeters (the voltages are all on the atx-24 pin by pinching above if you want).
Learn thoroughly about those bios before touching (recovery, dual bios and active bios, full and partial flashes and possible, etc).And from there to diagnose... the info you have is little and imprecise.

RegardsDid a blue screen appear? If so, go to settings, recovery, and disable the option to restart when an error appears. To see what error it might be. As they mention, the battery is an option, too. But we need the full info. Best regards and hope you can recover the PC... By the way, I'm currently dealing with one of those typical blue screens that's giving me a headache and I'm not going to reinstall the system until I rule out faulty hardware. Usually, faulty RAM, corrupted system DLL, or malware are the reasons for blue screens. Including incompatible drivers. Let us know how it goes.
-
The last thing he told me is that he took out the battery and it works perfectly.
I already told him to put a new battery in.
It doesn't show a blue screen, it left the screen black.
It seems that the motherboard was bought second-hand, and you never know how that can turn out.
When I have news, we'll talk about it.

@clipper and the Bios error codes what's going on? it's a no-brainer to report it when consulting this problem.
If there are no lights or numbers, get a buzzer or a tiny speaker and connect it to the _speaker pins on the board. -
@defaultuser
According to what he told me, it doesn't show any error on the speaker.
I also told him that.
And he said that it doesn't show any error.
Greetings, it has a speaker, but it doesn't show any errors.
Greetings -
He been told today that it shows black screens and takes time to start up.
The speaker gives the normal boot beeps.
But none of the error ones.
I told him to run a test on the RAM and to update the BIOSAnd to put the battery on the M.B (which he removed)
Those are the updates.

@clipper Si Bien te entiendo da pantallas negras durante el post de la bios? when it starts up the bios it seems like it tries several times?
If that's the case, it will be a device that alters the correct self test.Boot with integrated graphics and if not with another dedicated one.
Boot only with one module, testing it in different slots and then with the other module.Remove everything from the usb, remove all disks except (C:), remove everything that may not be cpu ram and graphics.
Also remove the system disk (C:) and boot with live usb (hirens or a linux if you can handle it. This way you rule out the disk and also the current installation when the OS is what's failing.
All of this is for failures in the bios post, that's why the first thing you have to ensure is that the failures are exclusively during the post and not when the bios passes the boot to windows (by booting a live cd/usb you can rule out the latter)
-
I have been testing with a single module (both the one and the other), changing it from slot, with nothing else connected except the SSD and it keeps freezing.
Every time it has been able to finish the memory test it has not detected any failure.
Memtest86+ does not work under the operating system.In addition, the computer freezes both in Ubuntu and in windows.

@clipper If I understand you correctly, does it give black screens during the BIOS post? When the BIOS boots up, does it seem like it tries several times?
If that's the case, it's going to be a device that's interfering with the correct self test.Boot with integrated graphics and if not with a different dedicated one.
Boot with only one module, testing it in different slots and then with the other module.Remove everything from the USBs, remove all disks except (C:), remove everything that might not be CPU, RAM, and graphics.

You still haven't told me if the failures are exclusively during the BIOS post.
Also, I don't know why you're testing with the disk plugged in.
@clipper said in M.B Problem ¿Corrupted BIOS?:
Also, the computer freezes in Ubuntu
Ah! So it does pass the BIOS post, correct?
Well, now it would be good to find out if it also sometimes fails before loading any operating system, or if on the contrary the failure is always after it has loaded.It would be convenient to know a lot more things, but since there's no report, we'll have to go step by step, so as not to run around like headless chickens.
Regards.

@defaultuser
I have already tried with a Ubuntu liveCD and updating the BIOS from a USB. It keeps freezing.
Tomorrow I will try connecting it to another power source, and if it keeps freezing, I expect to get a new motherboard, CPU, and memory.
Copy paste of their message.The use he gives to the PC is basically editing videos and making tracks for the GPS, he uses W10 and Ubuntu distro interchangeably.

The configuration you have chosen is this:

Personally, the M.B does not excite me, but for the use you will give it...
It is more than enough.

@clipper Visual inspection was not commented on, especially the older ones that came with normal capacitors, if any are inflated it is a sign of a bad life or too many years of use.
If it fails at odd times without any relation, it is usually degraded hardware, but good, checking the power supply with a multimeter (they are cheap), testing all ram slots, with just cpu ram and vga, having passed memory tests.... the most normal thing is that it is the graphics card or the motherboard, the cpu is less likely to be if it has the pins well and the socket is also perfect.
The graphics card often gives these problems and similar ones, if another one could not be tested it is also a candidate.@clipper said in M.B Problem ¿BIOS corrupted?:

RegardsThe power supply for a computer like this is cheap, if the other came with the old computer take it, unless the power supply is reliable or has been well checked with a multimeter.
Salu2.
-
@defaultuser the F.A that I remember is new, whether it is reliable is another matter...
Many years ago (more than 10) I had a tacens very cool (with passive heatsink behind) that gave very bad voltage spikes, I retired it for the one I currently have, corsair RMi 750 and it is still going.
As I am missing some more 8 pin connectors and the 10 year warranty has already passed I may retire it soon.
