Como hacer para que el modem pci cuelgue

mi problema es que mi hermano tiene en su casa un modem motorola de estos genericos, y esta todo el dia conectado pero el modem no corta la comunicacion cuando alguien le llama, la duda es si hay algun parametro o software para que avise cuando alguien llama, y asi poder saber si coger la llamada o no.
hay un opara los modem 3com, pero para estos no se cual se podria usar.
