The time has come... (~500€)

Hello
That Asus is not bad, although for that price I think you would be much better off with this one:
HP Pavilion dv6-3138es N930/640GB/4GB/ATI HD5650/15.6" XD603EA#ABE Laptop
Best regards

I know it's the million dollar question, but do you think AMD is better in terms of consumption/power? I've been building computers for years but I have no idea about laptops, I only know the basics. I've only been told to avoid Lenovo and Vaio, everyone on campus raves about their customer service.
Thanks.

I don't think it's better according to the data that's floating around, although I do think they are balanced.
Normally an i3 or i5 in laptops will perform somewhat better than its AMD equivalent, but in this case, it would be a crime to underestimate the Phenom II N930, it's not the same as an i5 but the difference is not that wide.It also depends on the use to which the processor is destined, an i5 is better for some things and the Phenom for others.

Alright, I understand, maybe for a little more I should get an i5, or would the processor upgrade significantly reduce my battery life? The computer is for compiling, a little bit of photoshop/fireworks and a lot of processor work.
Regarding my question about pccomponentes, do you have experience with them?
Best regards.

Saludos

I wouldn't hesitate in laptops Intel has always had an advantage and the current i3/5 are very good processors, AMD compensates whenever you want to save some money and usually accompanies its processors with good graphics, but if you are not going to use 3D there would be no reasons.
The consumption is the same between i3 and i5 (there are 35 and 17W in both) the difference if I'm not mistaken is that the i5 has the turbo boost. Here you have the characteristics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge#Mobile_processors

Many thanks to everyone, I am about to give a shock to the credit card with this laptop, I will give another chance to pccomponentes hoping not to have problems.
Best regards.

That Asus isn't bad, between 430 and 500€ there's an i5 that has a good amount of RAM, but it's not a bad option.
I hope it arrives satisfactorily and works well for you.Best regards

Thanks Sylver, the truth is that I am not spending much more xD unless I go a month without eating.

Asus has a good reputation for its laptops and a pretty well-designed one, maybe it's a bit big, but for the price it seems like a good buy. Good luck with it and when it arrives, remember to leave a review and a couple of photos!
Best regards

I've already placed the order, along with a base+fan and a shockproof case, total 460€ not bad at all.
