Well yesterday I created a post about which Mini Mac to buy, but looking at prices and comparing more or less components, a PC with components seems better to me. What I'm thinking is to build one with a good processor I5, I7, Xeon? (especially), a lot of Ram, and then a motherboard, graphics and a terabyte of hard drive.

So if you can help me build a PC for audio editing/recording perfect!

      Budget around 600 (up, down…)

if you want an intel core i7 or i5, the Asus Arctic won't do for you
look and see if this configuration suits you
          motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E €134.89
          processor: INTEL CORE i7 870 2.93 GHZ €309.xx
          ram: 2x MEMORY KIT 8 GB (2X4 GB) DDR3 1600 KINGSTON HYPERX CL9 €45.84
hard drive: Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 6Gb/s 1TB Hard Drive €111.07
sound card: I don't know about sound cards: no-no:
graphics... I don't know what you want
I'm not good at putting together PCs with budgets under €800;D

            i5 2320 160€
            MSI Z68A-G43 100€
            G.Skill DDR3 1600 2x4GB CL9 44€
            SSD Crucial M4 64GB 100€

About 400€ if we change to the i7 2600 are 100€ more, but for music editing I think you would notice little difference.

You won't need a graphics card because these core i already have one integrated and the motherboard I gave you has VGA and DVI outputs. The SSD is a memory drive that is much faster and for the OS it will be very useful when loading heavy audio tracks, 20GB is enough for OSX, besides, normal hard drives are quite expensive now.

With that equipment you can last 5 years without any problem.

As for the luxury graphics, I don't really understand this card, the thing is that I'll put Windows 7 inside the virtual box on the Mac, or how do you see this, that's why I said I need a 1 terabyte, besides the Logic sessions take up many gigabytes (3, 4... etc)

but ram memory I would recommend that you get 8gb or more

I fully trust Bm4n, the only thing I think is that 64 gigas is not very little? no matter how fast it is (I've already watched some videos and wow!).

And the other question, do I install Windows 7 and inside the virtual box with the Lion of Mac or do I mount two independent OS?

@adriamarva clear the SSD is only for the OS. The ideal is that you make a hackintosh and with 64GB you will arrive and I say this because with the macbook air I have a disk of 64GB and I am using 20GB. If you finally want to virtualize it you will need more space, perhaps about 30GB for the OS (you would be better off with an XP 64bit so that it consumes less) and the other 30GB for the sessions in which you are working, if you see it short the one of 128GB is at 170€. Obviously in any way you will always need another disk for storage if you have any at home (even if it is one of those 120GB SATA) it will serve you.

@nikera the Logic Pro has a minimum requirement of 2GB, recommended 4GB. Initially with 8GB it will have more than enough and you will be able to expand it when you want. I already see that you like things exaggerated (24GB of RAM, 1200W power supply) but it is good to know what you need so as not to waste especially in what is expandable.

I managed to install leopard with the virtual but it was a test since my current computer doesn't support it at all! jaja

There are forum members here who have it set up and can surely help you, I think it's not that difficult either, ask before buying the components so that nothing is incompatible. I can't tell you about OSX, I have it on the macbook.

No hay de que, por cierto creo que será mejor que pienses en el SSD de 128GB "Minimum 6GB of disk space. (19GB of optional content available via in-app download)." (Apple - Logic Pro 9 - Technical Specifications) casi se me sale el café por la nariz la madre :risitas:

Hi adriamarva, if you're going to use heavy libraries, it would be a good idea to put the most demanding ones on an SSD, but when using them, you should check how many GB's they occupy. In any case, what will really move tracks and plugg's is a good processor. I would put this together:

                                        Cooler Master Silencio 450 RC-450-KKN1 Case/Tower
                                        Intel Core i7 2700K 3.5Ghz Tray Socket 1155 CM8062301124100
                                        ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 90-MXGJZ0-A0UAYZ Motherboard
                                        Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA3 MAESTRO ST31000524AS Hard Drive
                                        Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL9 KHX1600C9D3B1K2/8GX DDR3 Memory

You can always add an SSD later.

Editing: I hadn't read about the hackintosh, a colleague built one with a Gigabyte. If you want to work with Logic, there's no other option, but it won't perform better than Windows 7. I saw a comparison with Dual Xeon and it did pull more, but with an i7 920, Windows 7 performed better. I read that Mac doesn't get much out of virtual cores, maybe that's why.

The performance is similar, the issue is the System and the sequencer with which you work comfortably. If you are a Mac user, go with Hacki; if you are a Logic user, you have no choice but to go to Sistema Mac; and if you don't care, go for PC and forget about the worries of finding compatible hardware for Hacki. You take your Reaper, Cubase, Pro Tools or whatever you work with and start racking up miles with Windows 7 64 bits.
