In Spain we have been dealing with the Sinde Law for months, but in the United States they are working on the SOPA Law, which will force Internet providers to modify their DNS servers to prevent users from accessing certain pages if they share copyrighted content.

But as the saying goes, once the law is made, the loopholes are found. Or even before. The Mozilla Foundation has approved an extension for Firefox, called DeSOPA, which allows users to bypass the blocking of websites, which would allow Internet users to bypass the laws that countries like the United States intend to implement... and even the Sustainable Economy Law in Spain.

The developer of the application, T. Rickz, told Reuters that the legislation being prepared in the United States only aims to guarantee the power and control of a few over the Internet. “Powerful special interests are trying to force legislation for stricter control of the Internet because they believe that this legislation will allow them to maintain their power,” he pointed out.

The positive thing so far has been the approval of the extension by the Mozilla Foundation. It can be installed from here, at least for now. And it remains to be seen if the American authorities will force the removal of the extension, as they could consider it contrary to the future legislation.

Soon an American newspaper will publish an obituary of the addon's author, "who died while practicing his favorite sport, skydiving without a rope".

          @Yorus:

The same thing will happen soon when an American newspaper publishes an obituary of the addon's author, "died while practicing his favorite sport, skydiving without a parachute".

          Jajajajajajaja you got me xDD

Well, it's a shame friends... I was so motivated to install it and I read the "We're sorry..." on the PD... bummer :chuckles:

Someone must have had time to install and save it, it's all about waiting and digging through forums, we'll find it sooner or later ?

No, man, things are like this, first they remove the add-on from the Mozilla page and then they attack the author, but it looks like an accident. Mafiosi methods of some governments, let's say...

I think one of the things that will be remembered about our time is how stupid governments are about putting locks on the countryside.

If they ban sites where direct download links are shared, we have private trackers left

If they ban private trackers, we have decentralized P2P networks left.

If they cap all P2P network traffic, we have TOR left.

And there's not much you can do against a TOR connection with robust encryption, unless you filter all encrypted traffic, which would mean leaving important services like those related to banking inoperative.

In the North African countries where there have been recent uprisings (in Egypt specifically), they tried to put control on the Internet to prevent videos from being leaked. Upon realizing that it was impossible to impose said control, they cut off the Internet connection in the entire country.

The only way to put locks on the Internet is to make it cease to exist and that, unless something quite important happens, is not going to happen.

Well, who wants something that costs them at least some effort, right? It turns out that it's easier to download a pirated CD than to buy it. Besides, I don't know what that comparison is about... as if we lived under repression.

I say this because, precisely when reading what you say about Egypt and other countries, there is no comparison… comparing it makes this of blocking pirate websites seem like a children's game.

Any comparison with countries with totalitarian states, with people starving with their freedoms restricted: we have all seen how one was shot with his hands up; it is unfortunate, to say the least. However, no one can doubt that every time knowledge expands, it is tried to be stopped as it happened with the church and its translations of the classics. Let's see who had the nerve to read Aristotle in the sixteenth century except for some privileged clergy. With the internet, it is more complicated to control all this...
