"Windows 9 could arrive in April"… of 2015, right?

        @Sylver:

In any case, if 8.2 is a free update and 9 is a hit, they're going to make money anyway <:(

That's what I don't understand. I mean, is selling licenses an important source of income for MS? I would say no, that the biggest source comes from licenses built into brand computers and laptops. So why do they release a new version that (correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't bring anything new except probably 4 aesthetic changes? When on top of that (and they know this because it's been happening since Windows XP), each new version is an insurmountable trauma for the user.

This policy of short cycles seems more like a desire of hardware manufacturers than a strategy of Microsoft.

I've been going through a psychological phase where I think I'll have to get rid of XP and go with one of those that have the worst of Windows and the worst of Linux (unless you're a kamikaze and configure them in such a way that security warnings or permissions don't appear), and they don't even bother to hide that they're intended for laptops, leaving aside desktop users.
As for why, you know it too: the money. Just the money.

It must be a strategy to keep people waiting, because if the 8 wasn't liked much (as the polls seem to indicate) and too much time passes between the 8 and the 9, there could be cases of customers who don't want to buy equipment with the 8 pre-installed under any circumstances or who prefer to replace it with another OS.

In any case, everything must be being studied from the highest spheres so that the result is what it finally is, I don't think they'll leave it very much to chance...

            PD: Right whoololon, I didn't put ?

I don't know to what extent they think things through... They usually release unfinished products and expect us to pay to complete them. I was hoping that with 8.2 and later, they would be updating things that aren't just SP or security updates. And when 9 comes out, I hope it has a reasonable upgrade price and online installation without needing a backup, but maybe I'm asking for too much, accustomed to OSX...

If they keep doing it, it's because people are leaving their money, if not, they would have already changed their strategy...

I agree. Microsoft's market capitalization is $310 billion, so they surely think carefully about each step... even if they only think in terms of euros.

By the way, in the year of Windows 8, Surface and XBOX One, their capitalization has risen almost 40%, another proof that they know how to make money...

It's better not to assume, Spanish banks were also among the best with large profits and were supposed to think very carefully about what they were doing... A great company for me is not made by the large profits that a few take home.

And Microsoft for me, which has been drifting for years, Zune, Office, its cloud services, Messenger are things that could have been exploited a lot and have almost been forgotten. Even its big ones like Xbox spent years in losses, and now it has had a launch well below PS; and Windows where half of its versions crash. They make money, yes, but they think carefully about what they do...

PD. And I left things out, Skype which since they bought it doesn't seem to have gained momentum either, and with Nokia we'll see, for now I think it had come out of losses there, I think it was a great decision but late because Windows Phone (another case of brilliant ideas abandoned) has already lost a lot of market share, or almost all...

XP says… 7 much better :sisi:

Well yes, half of the versions are a letdown but anyway, the launch offer of 8 was good, 30€ for the digital one seems to me a pretty reasonable price.

We'll see how the next one turns out, for now I'm happy with 7.

Pues sí, la mitad de las versiones son un chasco pero bueno, la oferta de lanzamiento del 8 fue buena, 30€ por la digital me parece un precio bastante razonable.

Ya veremos como sale el próximo, de momento yo con 7 estoy contento.

                        Windows 98: bueno
                        Windows Me: malo
                        Windows XP: bueno
                        Windows Vista: malo
                        Windows 7: bueno
                        Windows 8: malo
Windows 9: toca que sea bueno.
