Doubt with these two VHS videos (experts)

Vereis I have 2 vhs devices and I would like to know which one is better

1.- samsung (showview sv-245x)
2,.- firstline (vcr-601n) ntsc playback video doctor, long play and rec, esasy grhapic

Unless which brand is more recognized for you in these devices.

Firstline is a private label of Carreful

So unless the Samsung is much older or a very very basic model, the Firstline will be inferior.

But let's wait for the VHS experts to give us more information.

The Firstline seems to be a pretty basic model and I can't find any information about Samsung, but Fassou's argument seems correct to me.

PD: I'm selling the future sports results from the years 2000 to 2013. Now I'm going to see if I'm able to go back to my era :troll:

At this point, the question is not which one is better, but which one "is" better.
That the heads are in good condition, that the erasing and/or audio heads are not magnetized, that the insert and drag servos work well... that, in my opinion, influences more than the brand.

Don't believe Sylver, we are at the point where good VHS tapes are becoming scarce, I wouldn't give it away on eBay.

It's not a matter of buying, I have both, the fristline seems worse in my opinion, and as I commented in another thread it's for digitizing old movies that I can't find on the internet in addition to old family memories.

For now the Samsung is working well, I cleaned the heads and everything is perfect.
As for the other one, I'll leave it as decoration, some parts might be useful in case the Samsung fails.
The truth is that there is little information about these specific devices, mostly I was trying to find the technical sheet to know if they were 6 or 8 head and I still have that doubt, … I'll assume they are 6 unless someone says otherwise or has looked it up or found it.

On milanuncio there are several that are sold but it doesn't specify if they are 6 or 8 head.

And well, now I have a doubt, how many heads existed in VHS before changing the player or becoming obsolete.

A few years ago they were given away, now take a look and you'll see that there aren't as many left and in a few years a good svhs hifi model in perfect condition might not be very common.

There's probably still some Chinese brand selling vhs-cdr for 50 bucks. But in videos it wasn't like a DVD, the quality was noticeable much more, look for a Sony or a JVC and you'll see that the prices aren't a bargain like a few years ago when people were getting rid of them.

The one with the most heads that I had was one with 7, a "Choni". To count them, look at the drum, that big cylinder with an oblique cut, and count the notches (which are actually the heads) that it has around the axis.
Until it was standardized, there were problems with the LP function (which doubled the capacity of the tape at the expense of quality) if the recording device had more heads than the player… and I lost a lot of things because of that.
As usually happens, when they disappeared it was when they were practically giving the maximum of their performance, but the fact that they had so much physical wear did not make them ideal for storing information.
But yes, I also miss being able to watch the appearances of the Mamachicho that I have recorded...
