Rumors are growing about an upcoming unveiling of the new toy developed by NVIDIA, based on the Maxwell architecture.

These new cards (probably GTX870 and GTX880) will be the "cousins of Zumosol" of the already known GTX750, which has shown us such a good consumption / power ratio.

Waiting for the first real reviews for the second half of September, you already know what to ask for for the Back to School ;D or Christmas ?

It looks like Nvidia wants to cut costs, possibly releasing the 880 and 870 and soon discontinuing the 780 and 780Ti, the 880s should be cheaper to manufacture than the GK110s.

That's why it would be more interested in releasing the 880s even if they sell them a bit cheaper than the 780Ti, especially for the holiday season they're interested in putting something new out, since the 780Ti wouldn't sell much, less if they don't lower the price.

Anyway, I say the same thing as with the GK104, don't count on me, I won't give them a single € until they release a top range for real.

They put this out and say it's an 870, I find it strange, or the 870 is a piece of junk, I'd believe more that it's an 860,

And a month ago, I already talked about this:

          http://wwwendigo.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/gtx-870880-maxwell-y-el-gm204.html

          458 mm2 (more than 3x the area of the GM107). Range between 445-460 mm2.
5200-5900 million transistors. Possibly more upwards than downwards.
256-bit memory bus (very low possibility of a 512-bit one).
Memories of at least 7GHz, and memory configurations of up to 8 GB (more than possibly the typical model would be 4GB).
It will probably be a graphics card with an official TDP of around 250W. But with a real one of 200W.
32 ROPs in relation to the data bus used.
4 MB of L2 or level 2 cache.
          3 GPCs.
          15 SMMs.
          1920 CUDA cores.
          120 TMUs.
Performance between 20% faster than a GTX 770, to 60% faster, depending on the situation.

And while I was talking "only" about the entire GM204 chip, as the future GTX 880, I already mentioned the GTX 870 although without defining it (because obviously, it depends on the hard disabled that is so or so, and it was not a fundamental issue to talk about these novelties).

These new data only confirm my old conjectures (at a time when many websites said very, very different specs).

PD: I offer myself for the job of a fortune teller or futurologist, I charge a fair price, but I guarantee results… :ugly:

Do you think this could be an 870?

I suppose it all depends on the price, but possibly Nvidia plans to soon discontinue the GK110.

The drivers should already be better since the 750Ti came out a few months ago, I expected that in benchmarks like 3dmark they would stand out, although the GF100 were not good in 3dmark and then performed well in games.
We'll have to wait for it to come out and see more about performance in games because 3dmark is not reliable.

The drivers were very good with the GTX 750 Ti just released, there was nothing noticeable that it was a brand new architecture, everything went very smoothly compared to what was expected (of course, considering the existing power), so that's not going to be a problem at all.

And yes, I believe it could be the GTX 870. In fact, since I've talked about the GTX 880 as the entire GM204, and from the GPU-z captures it looks like a GM204 cut, one would expect it to be a GTX 870 or something like that.

The performance is close to what is expected for that maxwell configuration if it matches the rest of the specs to what I've said (full GM204: 3 GPCs/1920 shaders/120 TMUs/4MB L2/32 ROPs and 256 bits blablabla). For a chip with some cuts, mind you (13 SMMs instead of the 15 SMMs that would be needed for having 3 GPCs, that is, the GTX 880).

The truth is that it fits like a ring with the speculations, and it comes from coolaler, who is known for testing a lot of hardware and leaking data ahead of time (real data, of course). So I think there are reasons to at least consider it.

I was referring to the drivers that being a new architecture always expects to gain performance per driver.
The 480 worked well when they came out although there were things that didn't seem to perform to their potential, example 3dmark, in games they usually went well even from the beginning, as I bought it just when it came out, then the 500 if they had better performance in the 3dmarks.

I also believe that coolaler when he leaks something is usually true, although I had hoped it would be an 860, it will also depend on the price they put on the 870, if they put it at the price of a 770 of 4gb or a little more maybe it won't be bad.
I suppose these will come already better prepared for HBAO+ and effects like that and maybe that's where they will gain the most.

                regards
