I think that today no one is surprised to see that CPU generations are becoming less and less "exciting" when it comes to making a change, specifically the new 6XXX from intel offer little more compared to a generation 4 years older, like the 2XXX.
Efficiency has improved, although we have lost in temperatures along the way (damn IHS) and the most surprising of all, is that even the latest generations of Core2Quad would not distance themselves so much from the current generations if it were not for the difference in memories.

By this I mean that BENCHMARKS aside, in real life there is little difference within a usual use, playing, etc... between CPUs from 4 or even 5 years ago, to those of today and that options like a 775 platform migrated to xeon 771 are excellent low-cost options by putting an ssd and a decent graphics card.

To this end, I leave an article that I liked very much and made me reflect on something that for years I had been analyzing in my subconscious.

      TEN YEARS INTEL CPU COMPARED

Let us remember the era of AMD K7, K8, Pentium 4 and finally the beginning of the current era with the Core2 generation, where with each new platform we could double the performance of the previous one, and today there is barely a 10-15% real advantage between them.

      I open the debate ?

A couple of months ago I dealt precisely with this topic when I talked about my current PC. For years, the frequency limit has been reached and the size of the transistors is not going to be reduced much more. With current technology, there is no room for major improvements. In fact, as far as single-core processing is concerned, Moore's Law has been dead for quite some time.

I don't know how computer science will continue to evolve in the coming years. Storage units are indeed getting faster and the evolution of graphics cards is living its golden age. I would say that from now on, the big leaps will be seen on the part of software. Developers have become accustomed to finding processing power "without limits". Surely now the time of great software optimizations will come.

@cobito said in 10 years of intel processors in comparison:

What a good thing that is.

The conclusion I can draw is: what a great investment the 2500K today ❤.
Platform to last for many years, there is no forecast of change unless I become rich. And thanks precisely to Rules who has given me a precise cable to tighten the screws as appropriate, I think it will accompany me until old age even ?

            Best regards!

Exactly, let's just cross our fingers (those of us with somewhat outdated platforms) that the motherboard holds up long enough.
