      @Rules:

      Do they really only go up that little bit?? Wow, my current setup goes up to 4.4 without touching voltages, I with voltages up to 5.3 ghz! Even so, 4.4ghz of this i7 will be better than the 5.3 of my i5, right?

      Well, the performance per cycle of Haswell is better whether we're talking about an i5 or an i7, not in everything but in most things although the technology is intelcore and the architecture has been improved in many things and new instructions have been added. Then there's the HT issue that simulates having 4 more cores (4 real + 4 virtual) and that multitasking applications give approximately 50% more performance... it would be like having a hexacore i5.

      As for OC I say the 4.4 because that's what it comes with... the normal thing is to be able to put it at 4.6-4.7... mine does it without hardly touching voltage but you put LINX on it and it screws up because it goes over 100º... in fact I passed the superpi 32M at 5Ghz by air with barely 1.325V and I've raised it to 5.1-5.2 without being able to validate SPi... and the problem is the TIM between DIE and IHS which leaves too much thickness so I'll be forced if I want to crank it up to "open up" the micro... it all comes in this post: OC a un 4790K - HardLimit

      The 2500K doesn't have that TIM problem because the DIE and the IHS are soldered.

      You can see the "opening up" issue with data in this forum: [Official] Delidded Club / Guide where you can compare the margin of improvement very well... and here the margin of OC of the Devil's Canyon: The Intel Devil's Canyon Owners Club

            Just a quick thing,

            I've noticed that CPUs have gone up quite a bit in price in about 2 weeks, about 20€ each, both the 4690K and the 4790K, do you know if it's for some reason, for example, that they have fixed the IHS issue?

            I say this because if it's a new revision I'll get the new one, whether it's from one or the other, if it's been a price increase just because, I'll take advantage to buy it NOW before they raise the price also at CoolMod (292€ vs 309€ from pccomponentes)

            New revision or prices adapting to the holiday season?

              But let's see, what are you really going to use the machine for?
              What are you going to put into it that won't just run on a more powerful graphics card?
              ?

                I use it for everything, and more now, that I'm working with Autocad, SketchUp (video renderings), Multi-Threading programming, virtual machines etc…

                As I said a little further up, the graphics right now are not a priority for me, if you read a few posts above I explain that I'm just doing it because I got the opportunity to change to a new i5 for the same price or to an i7 adding about 100€.

                  Well, I would say you should go for an i7, since you're changing platforms, so at least you'll notice some difference with what you already have. ???

                    Well, the dilemma is over, in the end I did the following:
                    • i7 4790K 292.95€
                    • Asrock z97 Extreme 4 127€
                    • gSkill (8x2) 16GB DDR3 1600 CL10 second-hand 85€
                    Total 505€ (+130€ from my pocket) I have compared prices on Pccomponentes, XtremMedia and Coolmod, and it was cheaper on coolmod, I hadn't been considering this website for a while! When it arrives (I think next Monday) I will already have a review for you!! Goodbye and thanks for everything.

                      No, generally we are used to the price only going down but the truth is that it usually fluctuates based on the law of supply and demand… besides, there are stores that have bought at a certain price and then they run out of stock and when they go to restock there isn't any or they need to go to another reseller who charges them (yes... commissions... the world works like this)

                      In fact, I who had been thinking about changing my equipment since May, I even saw the 4790k in August for 275-285€, but it didn't last long... in fact, in a few months after the holidays that will be its price but now that a stage of high demand is coming, the price stagnates and tends to go up.

                      Don't worry about the paste, it's a design flaw that only affects OC, some more and others less... three things can happen:

                      • It overclocks well but has a bad IHS -> Good although :wall:
                      • It overclocks well and has a relatively good IHS -> Black gold ?
                      • It overclocks poorly but has a bad IHS -> :wall: :eoh: :ffu:

                      I have the theory that these last ones don't exist and that they are simply problems with the motherboard or inadequate components because if Intel guarantees that with that crappy heatsink the micro can go to 4.4Ghz margin, there must be... besides, there are many brutes who first thing they do is raise the voltage all at once... savages.

                      @Rules:

                      Well, the dilemma is over, in the end I have done the following:

                      • Asrock z97 Extreme 4 127€

                      As for the review… I hope you do a good job, I already have all the materials to unbox it and I will also be able to show the improvement results... now I just need to find a day when I have nothing better to do than to be at the PC and consume such an act of degeneration ?
