At my job, considering that my boss is a tightwad, we have a Daitsu portable in the server room, which has windows to the outside. The problem with these windows is that they are hinged and not sliding, so we have had to make a very nice mess with sealing tape and cardboard ?.

The biggest problem as Kynes says is the noise. In our case we don't care, but in yours if you want to sleep with it on it can be a problem.

I have one of those laptops, which I bought for the night, so I can sleep... and a m. Impossible with the noise they make. The best thing ever with the splitter. There are some that allow you to put the gas back into the machine, and so you take it with you when you leave.

          Greetings

I've had both, the "independent" compressor ones and the tube ones.
Although it's true that the tube ones leave much to be desired, the former are really much worse, and I'll explain why:
First of all, the compressor obviously has a umbilical cord that barely reaches two meters at best. Free noise and, unless you put a bar to stop it, don't even think about putting it on the window sill, or it will end up doing "bungee jumping" in two days (if it came loose completely, I would have had a real mess on my hands).

It was a "del-Longui" from the year of the cough, to give you an idea.

As for the tube ones, there are double duct ones, I suppose it's like everything and it depends on what you can spend.
In my case, back in the last century, I didn't have the foresight to mount the piece to be able to close the window... so what you see is what you get (the curtain did its best).

That said, the more foolish pass on the Kw, make sure the outlet doesn't go to the same circuit breaker as the computer or secure the latter with a normal UPS, as long as it smooths out the pull of the device, that's fine.

Edit: If the building has a roof and the apartment has access to the communal patio, that would be good.

            ...me lo dicen las voces...

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I finally got myself this one which is on sale today.

It will be a solution for a couple of months so as long as it does the job it will be fine. I didn't plan to leave it on for sleeping but to take the evening. Anyway I'll see if leaving it on for a couple of hours before bed makes a difference.

I arrived late but at a company I had a model of a single shot. It was super noisy, but that was 10 years ago. That said, it worked very well. You will tell us how it goes.

I usually use that solution, although it has its obvious problems when you want to cool down for several hours :troll:

I was looking at a tutorial a couple of years ago in I don't know what site to make you a homemade one using peltiers :ugly:

Summer ended and it got stuck in a drawer somewhere, but it looked interesting.

The problem with peltiers is that they have around a 10% efficiency. For every kW of electricity I put into it, it takes out about 100W from the environment.

In contrast, a compressor (the one I bought as an example) has an EER of 2.6. For every kW of electricity I put into it, it takes out 2.6kW from the environment (26 times the peltier with the same consumption).

The gadget has just arrived and it's already working:

                          · It makes noise, but not more than I expected from having a compressor in the room.
                          · The fix of taking the tube out the window is a big mess. It comes with some foams to insulate but they are too thick and in the end the best option has been to use some cardboard.
                          · In a few minutes I have gone from having an infernal temperature to an acceptable temperature (it is more effective than I thought).
                          · It weighs a lot (it's expected for a device like this).
                          · It doesn't include batteries for the remote!

Although I've only had it for a few minutes, in general it does its job; in a noisy and inefficient way, but it does its job.
