A 5Tb disk for 85€?
-
As of today, a 5Tb drive costs around €130 but it seems that Seagate could put a 5Tb 2.5" drive on sale for around €85. With that amount, you could now buy a 3Tb drive, so you almost double the capacity, on top of that in 2.5" format.

With a consumption of just over 2W under load and 1Tb platters, they promise to be a pretty interesting option not only in terms of capacity but also in efficiency thanks to the high bit density despite their 5400rpm.
The model is called Barracuda ST5000 and no more details are known about the sales date or even if this is completely real. But if it is, it would be a relief for the survival of mechanical drives against SSD units of an increasingly larger size.

If we weren't in October, I'd think it was April 1st.
If this is for real, with big runs, it's like Seagate is coming up to WD and saying in its ear, you can retire now.

Edit: ST5000LM000.

Great news, as I'm not crazy about storage, so bring me deals like this...
By the way, for being 2.5", in the photo it has a 3.5" face that can't handle it
XDBest regards!

15mm tall, it won't fit in most laptops

@Sylver Don't be cruel.
It's a 2.5" enclosed in the casing of a 3.5" -
I'm satisfied with the price drop for the 2 and 3TB models.

Well I'm not sure if it's the same product, but it looks like it is. If it is, the person who leaked the information forgot to put a one in that number.
