Which cooling pad to buy for a laptop?
-
Hello, I have a msi gl63 8RC that I use for programming tasks with mathematical calculations and so on... the computer is at 100% CPU for about 10 hours a day, looking at the temperature with a program like core temp, if I don't turn on the "turbo" of the computer the temperature is usually around 75-78º... if I turn on the turbo it goes down to 55 to 58º... the problem is that if I'm in front of the computer it makes a lot of noise and it's almost impossible to work.
That's why I'm thinking about a cooling base, I won't be able to lower it by 20º, but even if it only goes down by 4 or 5º the laptop will thank me in the long run.
I'm looking on ebays and I see many for "gaming" with leds and so on... to be honest I would prefer one without leds... do you recommend any in particular? or any brand?
thanks

@radge The first thing I would do is clean the heatsink, because over time (not much) you end up with a fur of three pairs of noses between the fan outlet and the heatsink fins; if you put a base with that plugged up, what you will do is cool the plastic, little more.
The funny thing is that once you clean that, it improves enough so you don't have to resort to external solutions.
The downside is that this model mounts the heat pipes on top of the fans, so I would suggest that said maintenance is done by a technician.

I agree with whoololon. That and keep the part where the fan is raised if it's below, or don't stick it to the wall. Some have the intake on one side and the fan on the other, and they don't realize they're blocking one of the ducts and we're in trouble.

By the way, if that laptop is new (as I thought I saw in another thread) keep in mind that the temperatures they usually work with are somewhat higher than those of a desktop PC.
What's more, you may see it at 83º in a few months, when Lorenzo gets tight.
I'm not a big fan of cooling pads, because in the end the principle for them to work is the same: move as much flow as possible to make it easier for the heat sink to do its job. That is, they don't cool "per se", what cools is the heat sink that the laptop has mounted.
In a cheap way, four plastic caps (to fit and lift the laptop) and a desktop fan well focused towards the base do the same job.

@whoololon ok...but well for what the bases are worth 10 to 30€ I don't see it as a bad option instead of doing it myself.

The laptop is 4 months old and is still under warranty, so it's not worth disassembling it.

@radge Yes, I noticed it's freshly caught which is why I added the other comment. Either way, better to keep in mind.
As for the cases, forget about the fashion ones with lots of fans: look for a good one with a metal frame and a fan that moves the most air possible.

In the end I bought this one

If I put the CPU to do the calculations it does, it goes to 100%... and it goes between 72 and 74°C without anything extra.
If I turn on power level 1 of the pad, it goes down 2 to 3°C and if I turn on the 2 power levels it makes a very low noise, then it goes down almost 5°C so it stays between 65-70°C
Not bad...

Hello, I am looking for one that is economical, which is a good value for money, do you know of any offers that are currently available somewhere, or should I wait for Black Friday?
