2 xeon e5-2660 v2 hp proliant gen 8
-
Hello colleagues, we will have another team to add to the Hardlimit test bench and to have one dedicated to chess. In performance it is inferior to the 2680, but it comes equipped with the following:
Proliant dl360p gen8 server with the following configuration:-1U chassis
-motherboard with raid controller
hp smart array p420 integrated.
-8 sff disk chassis, supports ssd, hdd and sas of 2.5.
-1gb cache fbwc.
-backup battery.
-8 hot plug fans.
-1 psu 460w (2nd psu +30€)
-2 cpu coolers
2 xeon e5-2660 v2, 20 cores, 2.2ghz.
8gb 1600mhz X8 module 64 Gb ram
The ssd hard drive and the old gt graphics from nvidia that I bought I will put it on this to see if it makes so much noise, because in the one we have now with the graphics put on, apart from not being able to close the chassis completely, the fans also stay in high performance mode when it is configured in the bios in optimal that goes up with the processor load and goes down in idle. Well I hope you add the team to Hardlimit in hwot.org that I have become addicted to with the laptop. Excuse the absence of accents, but there is no human way to reconfigure the language and look that it is in Spanish Spain, etc. A hug colleagues. -
@jordiqui Let's see how this one goes. The previous Xeon was on par with a Ryzen 7 5800X in multi-threading, which isn't bad considering its age and lack of AVX2.
How I envy those 64 GB of RAM. Whoever gets those.

To be honest, it's not easy to find DDR3 modules at the frequency I use at a reasonable price. I don't know how the person who sells me these computers gets them. As a store, they will have access to the same ones, or they are from other computers. The point is that I will try this for chess when this one arrives, with 128 Gb the performance of those chess programs. I assume that everything will be more agile, although 64gb already seems like a lot. But at the price they left it with the ivy bridge, it was impossible to say no. Now it seems to have less, because, although it mounts it with 64 gb it doesn't have more. I think it was 64 euros or similar. 8 euros per module, second-hand. I passed the hp test from the BIOS and they were fine, so I'm happy. Well, the point is that we will have another variant that in theory performs below the 2680 v2 but that physically we have the same cores and threads. - 20/40. I'll let you know, goodbye!

Well we already have the second hp proliant at home. The same seller, the processors are still ivy bridge and the rest when we configure it we will run some tests on this new configuration.
PD: Then install windows server, cluster, etc Ah, there was no way to put the graphics that I think will look halfway decent in this chassis, I don't know why the pci adapter wouldn't let me in because of the card's heatsink, install it, then I'll put it in the other and try to figure out why the fans speed up with the card and why they don't without it installed. A big hug.

Hello colleagues. Looking at these photographs, now from a distance, I get goosebumps because these gadgets are designed to fit into a closet. One wrong contact and a short circuit at the edge, then goodbye, who knows, the board, etc. Today I am excited because this is coming to me that you can see in the link:
Rack Cabinet
with its two corresponding trays for the two U. We will leave quite a bit of space between them, because the final goal is to mount four nodes (now I have four CPUs unused, two e5 2660v2 and 2 2651v2). As soon as I have everything mounted I will share the photographs with you. Since I am at it, I will ask you this question (I have already seen information, but I like to know your opinions) before with the simple swift I had enough, but they recommend a good one and last generation network cables. Any suggestions? in second hand, physical store, they have had one with quite a few ports for a while and I understand that it must be 100-1000gbs. You will tell me.
