Summary and statistics of 2022

2022 has been quite a busy year in general, with a lot of participation and some new developments. Below, we give you a recap of each section.

Forum

As for the forum, it seems to have become much more active than usual for a few months now, and with topics that take us back to the origins of Hardlimit. Let's hope it stays this way in 2023.

The visit statistics are as follows:

Although the number of unique visitors has remained almost unchanged (about a thousand more this year), it seems that each visitor has developed much more activity than in 2021, which is a sign that what is found is interesting.

Videos

The video section has continued to grow at a good pace. It has done so in an approximately linear way instead of the exponential growth that I had predicted a few months ago, so the expansion of the NAS that I had planned for after the summer has finally not been necessary. This, which may not sound very positive and despite the fact that there are several contingency plans, actually moves us away from the feared death by success.

On another note, we have a few members who upload content periodically and it is content that has a certain amount of views, so it seems that there are quite a few users in the shadows.

Regarding these statistics, the traffic represented is lower than the real one since part of it is bypassed internally and does not reflect in the logs.

As for the number of unique visitors, this year has increased by 50% compared to last year while the represented traffic has more than doubled, which is a good sign to know if visitors find the content interesting.

Test Bank

This year there have been some new developments: the database of motherboards, computers and RAM memories. This way, it is known which component has been tested with which component so it gives us an idea of the compatibility and also the performance of certain combinations.

Unfortunately, the statistics of the test bank this year are useless since a configuration error on my part has included the loading of the forum signatures, so they are not at all representative of reality.

This year we have received 411 validations compared to 237 in 2021.

In this section, I can only thank all those who contribute your results, seeing the amount of anonymous validations there are lately, many forum users surely do it this way.

Cover

The cover has finally received the fixes it needed for comments to work in all cases.

This year it has received 382 entries compared to 366 in 2021. For this year, a similar activity is expected which seems to be an average of approximately one entry per day.

In general, the figures are similar (slightly better) to those of last year.

Museum

This is the least popular page but it is the one that gives me the most play to do experiments. This year we have launched the file search engine, which is a resource-consuming monster and has not had the expected success, probably because it has not been advertised enough, it is too slow and is limited to very few file sources. Not to mention that it is still a resource destined for a niche audience.

Regarding the search engine, I have some ideas that are probably overly ambitious considering my knowledge, skills and material resources, but if I get the time, I will try them to see what comes out and maybe I will end up with the current limitations.

In addition, the Hardlimit translation team has subtitled 6 new videos from The Computer Chronicles. Let's hope that this pace of approximately one video every 2 months can be maintained for 2023.

In this case, the number of unique visits has doubled compared to 2021.

Social

Although both the forum and the Peertube instance can be considered social networks, this year we have launched the Mastodon instance with this subdomain. It still has limited activity but it is constant. We will have to let it mature and see how it evolves in 2023.

In general, quite good figures are appreciated with an upward trend in all sites. Let's hope that 2023 will be at least as good.
