PeerTube Instance Support Thread
-
This is the official support thread for the Hardlimit Peertube instance. If you have any suggestions, questions, or issues, this is the primary channel and the one through which you will receive the fastest response.
Note: If you need to share personal data such as your IP address or email address, use the Peertube contact form.
To reply to this thread, you must be registered on the forum. You can register here. The forum's data protection policy is the same as that of the Peertube instance: we do not share your email address with anyone, and it is used exclusively for administrative purposes within Hardlimit.
Notes
- On the first Sunday of each month, a RAID array integrity check is performed, lasting approximately 24 hours. During that day, uploads, playback, and live streams may run slower than usual.
- We have strict server access controls that may trigger false positives for suspicious activity, resulting in your IP being blocked. If you cannot access the instance from your internet connection but can from other locations, use the Peertube contact form and provide your public IP address.
- We usually provide several days' notice for maintenance tasks, but short maintenance windows of a few minutes may occasionally be performed without prior notice. If the instance has been down for a few minutes, it is likely due to one of these operations.
Known Issues.
- There is an issue with the federation of videos from other instances on Hardlimit. This is a platform-wide issue that has already been reported and will be fixed in the next version. If you are not receiving the latest videos from channels on other instances that you are subscribed to, unsubscribe from the channel and then resubscribe.
- A user reported on May 3rd that they experienced issues with their live stream. If you are having problems with live streams, reply to this thread with your internet service provider, geographic location, and the date and time so we can investigate the issue.

@cobito Good afternoon.
I've been following channels on your instance for a while now. Usually, I access them through my personal instance or my account on my personal Mastodon instance.
Up until now, I've never had any issues accessing your videos, commenting, sharing, etc., but today I can't access them from either my PeerTube (video.pcgaldo.com) or my Mastodon (mastodon.pcgaldo.com).
However, I have no issues accessing them from a secondary Mastodon account, and I can also access them without problems by visiting your instance directly.
I'm not sure if I've been blocked or if there's some other reason for this.
If you could, please take a look to see what might have happened and let me know if there's anything I need to do on my end to resolve the issue.
Best regards. Thank you very much.

Hi @pcgaldo. The IP associated with both subdomains (the same for both) had been banned due to suspicious activity related to aggressive crawling.
It has already been removed from the blocklist. If it happens again, reply here and we'll check why it might be triggering.
-
@cobito As far as I know, I don't engage in aggressive tracking. Within the Fedi, it's just what PeerTube and Mastodon can do on their own.
Have you logged any anomalous activity from my server?
-
@pcgaldo is an automatic filter that sometimes triggers false positives. It's possible that requests from Mastodon and Peertube just happened to pile up and set it off.
I wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't happen again.

@cobito Hello, I'm the administrator for the instance over at https://video.zalasur.media/. I noticed an issues playing both live streams and VODs hosted on video.hardlimit.com from my instance. When playing a video, I see a number of CORS errors which is preventing playback. Here's an example URL:

Welcome to Zalasur Media, a PeerTube platform!
Zalasur Media (peertube.zalasur.media)
Here's an example of an error I'm seeing in the console log that appears to be the root cause. I did some quick research and it looks like the culprit might be with hardlimit setting a duplicated wildcard origin ("*") somewhere.
Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://video.hardlimit.com/static/streaming-playlists/hls/6af7997d-447a-42ef-987c-92a171c5c023/a50a90f3-8e68-4341-a09d-8739df36200a-1080-fragmented.mp4. (Reason: CORS header ‘Access-Control-Allow-Origin’ does not match ‘*, *’).
If you want to reach out to me via email my address is dave.finton@gmail.com.
Thanks!

Hi @zalasur, thanks for the heads-up.
A few weeks ago, some Nginx configurations were changed, which seems to have affected video access from other instances.
I'm currently away from home and not sure if I'll be able to fix this from here (I'll be back in a month), but with the information you've provided, I might be able to do something about it.
Regards.
-
Hello again @zalasur
I've taken a look at the configuration and it should be fixed now. A duplicate header was being sent that affected CORS connections but not web requests.
The videos should now be playable from your instance.
-
@cobito I was able to confirm videos are now playable again. I haven't tested live streams yet but I feel confident those are also fixed. I'll let you know if I see any further issues. Thanks for the quick response!

Hi
I started to playing around with the Hardlimit PeerTube Live stream. I was able to setup the live, although after a few seconds of playing the live in private browser window the video stops with the following errorError The video failed to play, will try to fast forward. Is it something known? I did something similar on the other peertube instance and there it works.
Any hint? -
@xliiv This is the first time I've heard about this issue. Does it only happen in an incognito window? Does it work in a regular window? What browser are you using?
On my end, I've tried playing live streams in an incognito window quite a few times and have never had any problems.
-
@cobito thank you for your quick response

- both in incognito (as annonymous) and regular window (as logged in user)
- brave-origin (but i think i also checked it on firefox, anyway i'll do it tomorrow for sure)
-
@xliiv Okay, no one has reported that specific issue to us. In the past, we've seen connectivity problems when streaming live from certain providers (Germany and Italy), but that was resolved.
Let us know how it goes with Firefox.
-
@cobito same broken effect on firefox
does anyone else stream from linux/wayland?
1, my streaming setup is Steam window on linux/wayland - this gets the error (also I've checked streaming some editor window with closed Steam and also broken).
2, i'll also checked other machine, streaming editor window on linux/xorg and it works. Also between (1) & (2) also OS is differrent.
-
@xliiv I've streamed quite a bit from Wayland using OBS, always on Fedora or a derivative (Nobara). When live streaming to Peertube from Linux with a Wayland desktop, I ALWAYS recommend the OBS version from Flathub. It's an official build maintained by the developer themselves, and the main plugins are also available on Flathub and are easy to install.
Another important thing is to always choose the h264 codec and avoid using codecs like AV1 or h265, as Peertube does not support any of them.
-
@pos_yo @cobito
I can confirm it works with the following changes- obs from flatpak (instead from the distribution)
- use
software h.264(instead ofnvenc h.264)
You can change (2)
settings > output > Streaming > video encoderThank you for you help and support

UPDATE:
(1) is options, it also works with the distribution version of OBS. -
Hi!
For about a couple of days now, the chat on my streaming channel hasn't been working, and I don't see the option to enable it. -
@Ransil Hi. It should be fixed by now.
-
@cobito Hi! It happened again ^^U
Thanks!!
-
