Pb5deluxe/w7 64/driver's and ram?
-
Hello! I am about to install w7 64 bits. Is it necessary to change the motherboard drivers so that everything works well? and ….. which ram memories would you recommend to me to squeeze the most out of the set?
Many thanks

Saludos

Ok, if on the ASUS page there are specific drivers for w7, I will trust that w7 already has them too.
-
If there are specific drivers on the Asus page, it's better to download them, as they may be more up to date. The ones included with W7 are the basic ones that make everything work more or less.
Best regards

…. there are also several entries referring to the bios itself.... that's where I get more lost, I'm not sure if I should install the utility that comes with the motherboard to update the bios automatically, and let it find the bios update it needs.

It wouldn't hurt, you're better safe than sorry :sisi:

updating the bios of an ASUS is quite simple, just go to the Asus page, download the version that suits you best (you have bios updates and bios updates for example to mount the latest CPUs) and burn it to a USB memory, restart the PC and enter the bios in the corresponding section so that it loads the new bios from the USB key. personally, I would dispense with the automatic update, which can always give some problem by installing a bios that you do not like
-
….. and of the I think 20 entries that are on the page in reference to this plate...... which one is right for me? I have read and each one does something different, I don't know if they are independent, or the last one encompasses the others.
-
look at the number of bios you have and from there look at what each one gives you, some are more or less generic and others will give you something more specific (like certain micro models or new memories)
-
after looking at the asus page do you have a P5B deluxe no? http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5B_Deluxe/#download I think you can download the latest version of the bios which is from 11/02/2009 nº 1238 anyway check which version you have -
ok, my version is definitely older than that, the computer is already a few years old. Thank you very much for your help

oh! and about the ram memory? I've passed the test to you and it turns out that one goes to 400 and the other to 333! I thought they were a pair, but no, one goes to 1.8 and the other to 2.0, resulting in different Mhz….. So, I don't know if I should buy the pair that goes to 400mhz, or directly discard both and go for others.
-
That's because they are probably different.
I would go for a new pair, because you will struggle to find an identical one, there are usually problems with that.
Since you are investing, go for a 2x2Gb G.Skill or similar, so you ensure a correct performance.

looking at prices DDR2 memory sale offer in Online store good cheap prices with discounts I don't know what to tell you, something decent is expensive (you pay because they are DDR2) compared to DDR3 DDR3 memory > 1600 sale offer in Online store good cheap prices with discounts :nono::nono:

And what can you do if you have DDR2 memory? If you have different speeds in them you will lose performance, it's something I would invest in to fix it

There is also the option of second-hand to save a few euros.

true, the old stuff is expensive! it always happens…. So it's better to get new 4g in pairs to take advantage of dual channel decently. Ok.
Because more than 4g is silly with w7 64.... unless you dedicate yourself to graphic editing programs.... but what about music programs? with virtual instruments? Maybe there it would also be interesting to have more than 4G of ram?
My motherboard accepts a maximum of 8 gb here I found a kit that gives 8,192..... does that peak also cause problems?ALTERNATE - HARDWARE - Memory Modules - DDR2 - DDR2-800 - Mushkin DIMM 8 GB DDR2-800 Kit
In case 4g is more than enough, I'll go for the GSkill kit you mentioned.

Now that you mention it, I have indeed noticed a lack of RAM at times with virtual instruments when producing music. Some plugins easily took up 2Gb of RAM, and with only 3Gb it had quite a hard time.
If you can stretch to 8Gb, you can prevent that, but if not, don't worry too much, as 2x2Gb will do just fine.Regards

Saludos

let's see …. if you tell me that for two or three years you have no intention of upgrading the pc (micro board and memory) then yes. you can spend the money without worrying on a DDR2 and you'll notice the difference, but if in a year you feel like upgrading the equipment you'll have some memos that you'll never have made profitable
