Happy holidays and 2020 year-end summary
-
The last year of the decade has been eventful. On the one hand, both AMD and Nvidia have released a new generation of graphics cards that have represented a very important generational leap. With these new GPUs, the world of consoles has not remained unchanged and Sony has presented a new PlayStation after 7 years. The major technical differences have raised great expectations that have ended with stock shortages due to high demand and greater than usual activity from speculators.
Without a doubt, it has been a tough year for the x86 architecture and even more so for Intel. Apple has presented its brand new M1 that is causing a lot of talk due to its good performance with a minimal power consumption. With this, Microsoft has also jumped on the processor development bandwagon and has decided to create its own ARM chip. Meanwhile, RISC-V continues to gain popularity thanks to the fact that it is an open alternative to ARM for which no license is required for the use of the ISA. For its part, Intel continues to have difficulties increasing its level of integration while AMD continues to gain market share, especially in the laptop market.
From the legislative point of view, there have also been a couple of new issues. On the one hand, the EU has forced Apple to comply with the 2014 directive with which mobile phone manufacturers must use the same charger standard. On the other hand, the "right to repair" has been established, with manufacturers having to provide information on durability and facilitate the repair of their products.
Since we are talking about planned obsolescence, this year has not been short on unplanned obsolescence. New security flaws have been found in Intel processors that continue to undermine their performance. As a novelty, it has been discovered that the performance of the Zen 3 is also affected by the mitigations of these flaws.
And to finish the review of the hardware and software scene, we cannot forget the 25th anniversary of Windows 95, an operating system that marked a before and after and served as a bridge between the old MS-DOS era and the current NT era.
As for Hardlimit, there have also been some new developments.
This year we have launched our museum, a site that is gradually growing both in functionality and content.
In addition, improvement tasks have been carried out in the test bench and for a few months now, we have been present in the Microsoft Store.
Since late summer, the activity of the test bench has multiplied and we have exceeded the barrier of 2000 validations with many new models.
Another big novelty of the year is the new blog of @Yorus where we can see how the tuning of his retro equipment is evolving.
The cover has also received changes and has gone from being in its infancy to becoming a page that centralizes all the activity of Hardlimit.
To finish, I cannot leave out the video section, which, although it has inconsistent activity, has had moderate success mainly in the open source community.
Before closing with the statistics, I wanted to thank the presence and participation of all those who keep buzzing around here and, especially, those who participate in the forum, the blog, the test bench and reporting bugs.
This year in total we have received close to 600,000 visits on the three most attended pages: the forum, the video section and the test bench.
The forum has had an increase of 40% in the number of visits this year (which, at a glance, does not seem to be an increase in line with participation) while the increase in the number of visits to the test bench has been 100% compared to 2019.
We hope that in 2021 the upward trend continues and, in the case of the forum, that those visits materialize into more participation.
May you have happy holidays and may 2021 bring health to everyone.

A year we will certainly remember
Fortunately, it is coming to an end, and the outlook is good for 2021
Happy Holidays to all and a very Happy New Year!
-
Un unforgettable year, although it seems that not everything has been bad news. As always, thank you, Your Excellency Mr. Mayor @cobito for your efforts and all your time dedicated to this forum of ours, which is always ready and increasingly with more novelties and functions. We are luckier than we stop to recognize daily. I hope and wish that you all have a happy holiday season and that the coming year is infinitely better than this one. Best regards! -
Also from the Canary Islands. A tough year, but thanks to the camaraderie and the effort of everyone we will get through it.

¡¡¡ Happy holidays to all!!!
A year to forget and yet we will never forget, but at least in my case we are still here and I can't complain about anything.
And as for HardLimit, we have the best possible person in charge, not stopping to make it evolve, with new content, sections... The era of forums passed for many, but there is much more, especially the Museum, which I love.
My project is a bit on hold with my problems with the mice, but not canceled at all, because I have more retro tinkering in mind that I will be counting on the blog.
A hug to all!

Merry Christmas, Family!!
A big hug and I hope you spend a happy holiday season, despite how crazy 2020 has been.
And may 2021 be a better year for everyone!! -
Buahhh, it had been years since I had actively strolled through hardlimit and today a doubt about some memories that I got myself back in the day ( https://foro.hardlimit.com/topic/56574/os-pido-ayuda-para-elegir-pc
) and that of course I consulted with you, has brought me back here again. Que recuerdo ver que seguís aquí en activo muchos de los grandes foreros que conocí en su día. Un abrazo a todos and happy 2021!!. I hope you have a lot of health and peace. -
