I have the following problem. I have a CPU with a Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 motherboard. Last night I was using it perfectly. I left it alone for a moment because I went to put my baby to sleep. When I came back, nothing seemed abnormal. I initiated the shutdown process, the monitor turned off, the speakers turned off, the keyboard turned off, but not the CPU, which continued to work with the LED and the power supply fan as if it were still on, even though it had been sent to shut down. I tried pressing the power button again, but nothing happened. I tried holding it down to force a shutdown, but nothing happened. I tried resetting it, but nothing worked. The last thing I did was disconnect the power directly and left it like that overnight. The next day, I tried turning it on, but it showed no signs of life. I checked the power supply, and when I opened it, it was operational, but I saw traces of water inside and a little bit on the gray square piece that I attached in the photo. In the photo process, I disassembled everything, cleaned it, and dried it with a hair dryer, and I saw something oxidized underneath the gray frame. I attached a photo that could be it. I should note that when I checked the liquid, it was cat urine ?????).

POST DATA I can only turn on the computer by applying heat to the motherboard. When I apply heat, magically, the power reaches everything in the computer, and when I press the power button, it turns on and works without any problems. When it cools down the next day, I have to use the hair dryer again!

In these photos you can see that something is oxidized. I'm not sure if that could be the liquid that was in that gray box.

        Hello @nightcode1

It doesn't look very good, but it seems that some small capacitors are burned/damaged.

I don't know to what extent that motherboard can work well again, but given the circumstances I would consider changing it.
The most worrying thing is that an electrical failure in the circuit could break other components along the way, that's why I mention it.

Anyway, you can always try to disassemble it completely and blow it with compressed air. You could also leave it in the sun for a couple of days, so that any remaining moisture evaporates, and after that try it.

        Regards

@Sylver I understand friend, if I took it out in the sun for several hours, I tried to connect it and it sent energy but it didn't turn on, I put it back in the sun to see later, I let it cool down, maybe it sends energy because the sun has the same functionality as a hair dryer, I'll know when to try to connect it when it cools down

@nightcode1 I wouldn't know, but it's true that there is some corrosion apparently on the underside.

If that has leaked from the top, it's possible that there is much more below the PCH itself.
But I suppose it could only be found out by desoldering the PCH, which I wouldn't do obviously because of the risk it entails.

                Regards

That Mobo looks bad, it's better to look for a similar one second-hand or on Aliexpress. From what I see it's worth about 30-35€, but if you look well you can find a similar socket 1155 motherboard for 20-25€. I'm not saying it can't be repaired, but it looks like it's complex and you end up spending money that may not be worth it. Best regards!!

@nightcode1 it will be difficult to find another one like it, because it has been discontinued for over 12 years.

We have already seen the corrosion spots underneath, as you mentioned, Mr. @_Neptunno_ it doesn't look good.
Let's hope there is luck and you can fix it for little money.

Honestly, the cheapest one you can find. I think the H61M-HD2 has some improvements in the graphics chip's connectivity, the network card is different (not sure if better or worse) and not much else. But don't complicate yourself, I understand that you want to spend as little as possible, so stick to the most affordable 1155 motherboards and you can stretch the PC a little more.

                          Best regards!!

Right, that's the one they're selling me new or at least that's what the person says. The technician checked the motherboard I mentioned at the beginning, changed the RAM, disk, power supply, and they gave it a wash, but the motherboard still doesn't respond. He tells me that possibly I should buy a new one because this one doesn't work anymore. But what I can't get out of my mind is why it doesn't work because with the hair dryer it turns on and works normally without any issues?

@nightcode1 it's rare that you're sold "new" a board that was discontinued a decade ago, but it could be a unit that wasn't sold at the time and has been in a warehouse all these years without being used, although I must say that I find it extremely rare.
                              Those things don't usually happen.

Regarding the problem with the board itself, it does have some damage, that's undeniable. It doesn't mean it's no longer useful, but what we know is that it only works using a hair dryer, because of that damage.

@nightcode1 Wow, positive surprise, I'm very happy that in the end it came back to life without any major problems.

                                        Enjoy it again ?

                                        Best regards
