ATOM-Lego server
-
Yesterday I finished the Lego box for the atom server that I have been running for a week.
It's an n270 with a 1gb ram module (although according to linux it's 1.5 I don't know why, maybe it has 512mb soldered to the board? :mudo: …)
I also put a 160gb 2.5" hard drive in it and it's connected to an HD dock that I swap the drives in.
The reality is, it's a mix of two KO netbooks, one of them had its screen broken from a hit and the other had its motherboard burned. Too bad they weren't compatible…
So I took the hard drive from one and along with the motherboard from the other and a couple of heatsinks I had lying around and the broken blower fan from a broken dell, I put together this server. The fan runs every so often, it's not too necessary, but it makes a terrible noise so I got a couple from DX to see if they work, they're not blower type so I hope they fit better in the box and move a little more air with less noise (the bar isn't set too high).
Here the fans in question --> Cooling Fan for VGA Video Display Card (4cm*4cm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme and 7cm VGA Video Card Cooling Fan - Worldwide Free Shipping - DX
It wasn't too difficult to improve the heat dissipation of the netbook, as it didn't have any fin heatsink or anything.

For the sides I used Lego blocks that have holes so that air can pass through better.

At the moment I have Lubuntu installed which I manage without a screen with x11vnc + TEAMviewer + vsftpd + Transmission-daemon
I have a few things to fix:
- Permissions to write on FTP
- Resolution. Not having a screen I can't set whatever I want.
- How to know at all times the IP of the PC (in case it has changed) At the moment I connect with Team Viewer and look at it through mi-ip.org :ugly:
Here you have some more pictures:

Nice server. I have always thought that an Atom would be the best option for building a server, although you have to wait for one to fall into your hands.
Ironies of fate, that happened to me a week ago when a relative's screen fell off his netbook and can't be closed (although everything works fine, even the screen) and he gave it to me. It's an irony because it happened a few days after I started building my server with Raspberry Pi, of which, by the way, I hope to post the damn guide this week.
I connected an external screen, keyboard and mouse to the netbook and it does a great job as a desktop PC for not too heavy tasks.

I am very happy with it for the moment, except for what I have put that I need to fix…
What bothers me the most is the issue of the IP and the resolution... -

What bothers me the most is the ip issue and the resolution thing...No-ip is open source, so you just have to compile it and configure it so that it starts automatically every time you boot: this will serve you because Raspbian is little more or less than Debian compiled for ARM and Lubuntu is a fork of Ubuntu which in turn is a fork of Debian.
As for the resolution, the truth is that control via VNC is not the best option since it consumes a lot of resources, both in memory and CPU for having the graphical environment on and in bandwidth for the way VNC works.
There are numerous ways to remotely control a Linux system very efficiently, with a graphical environment and without the need to run the X on the server. In the guide that I am going to post for Raspi I explain how. Let's see if I can give it the final touches between today and tomorrow and publish it this week.

Well I will be waiting to see what you comment on remote control!

The LegoServer is very handsome, I already saw it on Facebook, you've worked hard on it :sisi:
I would like to build a similar one with some old laptop that falls into my hands someday… In the meantime I will be satisfied with making basic boxes, modding them in the art attack style and looking for a useful place for them in the house :ugly:
Best regards -
I was more of a Tente when I was a cani, but I like it :troll:

It's cool, and the best part is that when you get tired of that aesthetic you change the pieces of furniture and you already have version 2.0.

Correct! xD
And it's also easy to adapt it for specific modifications, like for example the fans that have to arrive or a better heatsink.

Just put Lego figurines on top doing everyday tasks or just holding a CD between a few, which would look dead and I know you've thought about it :ugly:

¡Esta publicación está eliminada! -
Very cool deiivid you will tell us how it goes, but those little dolls making a harlem shake XD
-
If the tech were yours, you would put an F1 Ferrari on top of it with the dolls tuning it up in the garage, am I wrong? :ugly:
-
Haha, I won't lie to you, of course I've thought about it. The only thing is that I have most of the parts in the village and until I go this weekend I won't be able to change the case much.
I brought more or less the basics because I came by train, this weekend with the car I will be able to bring many more things! The server works great. The only problem is the fan, which makes a terrible noise, fortunately it works every so often. When the ones from DX arrive I will tell you how it goes!

Right now, with who is in the scuderia, I wouldn't put any of that XDD but a tribute to schumi wouldn't be bad:troll:

I knew you would say that ;D

I am predictable, it is superior to me it is a heavy burden but what am I going to do XD
