Fortunately, a simple on-the-fly modification in REGEDIT during the beginning of the installation will allow us to install this new OS on processors that do not comply with TPM 2.0

@kynes Sí, the truth is that I don't know what Intel's plan is, saying things that they don't even believe themselves.

The image thing seems to be a matter of relative addresses. I edited your message by adding 'https://foro.hardlimit.com' to the image address and now it appears on the cover.

I'll keep it in mind to see if I can touch the cover soon, as there were a couple of pending issues from a while ago.

It's a shame that it's so complicated to change the ssd, that you lose the warranty and that the disks in that format are still very expensive, it looks like it's going to be a very interesting machine, but the price skyrockets if you want some storage.

With a 1 TB disk you would have a great machine for emulation, and the entire Steam catalog and everything else.

How sad life is in the poor man's house XD

You have to be an imbecile to do something like that. They are not selling their products to people who do not know what they are buying. Nor are they products in which these scams are difficult to detect, there are test banks and the first thing someone does when buying is consult these test banks. The only way something like this can work is if 100% of the manufacturers agree so that in the future the consumer will suspect everyone. If there is one that does not go through the hoop they have already ruined their reputation.

There are examples in this world of companies that have taken years to recover their reputation for a mistake like putting cheap capacitors. They go and put bad chips on purpose. I have read that Intel has not entered this game. They will see what they do.

I get the feeling that everyone is being so negative. They have all agreed before, I know that the graphics card is not worth what it costs, but the situation in chip production is what it is and the demand from miners is what it is. It's strange that in no headline do they say that this model improves performance in cryptocurrencies with half the consumption of the RTX 3060 for half the price.

palotes I don't want to be a taliban but marginal cost is not what you say. It is the increase in cost to produce one more unit of product. I think you meant that it has a negligible increase in cost or that the increase in cost is marginal. jfyi

@Gallina said in Valve presents the Steam Deck:

Steam has just killed the fight between console and PC gamers! If you can connect it to a screen, a keyboard, and a mouse, this is the ultimate console.

That's very debatable. It's true that it's a PC with the advantages of a console, but it doesn't have the advantages of a PC. Even a low-end laptop has more upgrade possibilities than this.

@palotes said in Valve presents the Steam Deck:

A quick look and I think it's at a more than reasonable price.

Yes, it's true that it has a very attractive price. We'll have to see what the final performance is. In the same interview you linked (by the way, I'm editing your message to put the address as a link) they say that although you can put external screens, the games might not perform as well as expected at resolutions higher than 720p.

I think Valve is going to become a kind of printer manufacturer but with consoles: they sell you the hardware at cost price because what they're interested in is selling you the cartridges (in their case, the games).

I find it a very interesting gadget and honestly, Valve already has a finger in my wallet, but I would wait a bit to see the weak points. With that size and with that battery life, I think the hardware is going to be more limited than it seems at first glance. By the way, if it's true that it doesn't have a headphone jack, that's a big flaw.

There will be minor changes for the average user, but there are very important changes inside. In the Linux version, they have finally gotten rid of GTK2. Now everything runs on GTK3, which will simplify packaging. It's a shame they still don't offer an option for QT, but that's another issue.

They have also removed support for FTP, which may sound silly and indeed it is. But it's still a milestone. One of the most used browsers not being compatible with the protocol has historical significance, even though it's hardly used anymore. FTP has been with us since 1985 and until about 10 years ago it was the most used protocol for sharing files on centralized servers. Let's keep a minute of silence in its honor!

Another important detail that I'm not sure if it's new in this version or not, but I think that from now on Mozilla's VPN works in Europe. I've been looking and it costs €60 a year, which isn't bad. If I have to choose a VPN from a company that I don't know if they collect data or what, or from Mozilla, my decision is more than clear.

Prices are still crazy. Ampere has been on the market for over a year, its starting price was already quite inflated and at this point it is still 50% above the starting price. This is a lost generation.

By the time prices return to normal, Nvidia and AMD will have already released the next generation. At that point, there will probably be bargains on second-hand units and more if the chip crisis ends once and for all. Although these companies are capable of using the psychological effect that now a 3070 for 800€ seems cheap and continuing with those absurd prices.

Competition and the law of supply and demand will provide... if they don't agree on prices, of course.

@cobito Limiting it manually to 25W drops to about 300000, I'll probably leave it that way because I'm a noise freak and barely notice a difference in the way I use it.

The 3060 that comes with it is 115W, but I have it limited to 65W for the same reason, so as not to go crazy with the noise. In this case I have left it fixed at 0.7V at 1520 MHz, which gives, and I don't let it go up in voltage so that the consumption doesn't skyrocket.

@_Neptunno_ said in Windows 11 may not work on recent hardware:

The truth is that I'm very lazy to deal with another new Windows, not for enthusiastic or home use but for work. With Win 10 I've already suffered its constant and problematic updates, in addition to its mania of changing things around to seem more “modern”. That's why this news makes me think that things will not only not improve but it will be more extra work to support users and companies.

I suppose I'm getting older and I'm tired of dealing with a new Windows jajajaja

I don't plan to change until a lot of time has passed, it gives me a lot of laziness honestly, and more so as it is being talked about at the beginning it usually gives a lot of trouble.

The West has given China a century of development and technology in less than 30 years. And what a gift it is that they are now within a few years of the most advanced technology. I can already smell the sanctions from the West because they will be spy chips to prevent that technology from flooding these markets. Freedom when it comes to exploiting third-world countries and protectionism when they are getting beaten up. Let's see if they give it to the processor that is being developed in Europe because if not, it will not be true that we are the grandmother wrapped in expensive furs that raises smiles when she doesn't know how to use her 5000 euro TV remote.

That's an odd version! That means it's going to be a hated Windows. With that taskbar they've put on it, I think the level of hatred will reach at least that of Windows ME. Fortunately, they still haven't put an expiration date on Windows 10.

The comparison is a bit weak. It doesn't indicate how it measured the power, what equipment it has, or anything. In the comments it seems to say that it uses powertop. I can't think of a worse way to measure power, that leaves out half the hardware. It's also not the same to have an Nvidia, Amd or Intel gpu. And within those three there is also a difference between generations and drivers. It should have specified the hardware details, the version of the drivers and have used a physical wattmeter that measures the power of the complete equipment. And to make it complete, it should have done a full cycle to the battery with each distro and measured the time it takes to discharge.

I love these achievements. The processor seems powerful, I'm not sure if equivalent to a 486 at 66mhz but it certainly doesn't look like it will be lacking. On the other hand, the fact that they managed to run it with so little ram is quite an achievement. In the article they say that the version for game boy advance consumes only 384kb which is already quite impressive. I think for PC it required 4mb of ram. By the way, it seems that Ikea is pushing to remove all the material, for example, the video can no longer be seen. The truth is that from a security point of view, it leaves the light bulb in a very bad place, I also don't understand why it needs such powerful hardware to do something as simple as turning on and off. With a basic microcontroller it would have been enough.

It seems to me a somewhat gratuitous gesture. Microsoft has long seen that the market share of each operating system remains more or less constant over time and I believe it is the main reason why Windows 10 has remained the definitive Windows, even though they are going to release a rehashed version called Windows 11. Why would they innovate if they are going to continue to push licenses on almost all PCs that are sold? Windows 11 is a joke to artificially make PCs with Windows 10 obsolete and the worst part is that people will swallow it and will pull out their wallets just to see a renewed look.

@Gallina It's a bit of a stretch to say that the latest Cores are based on the P6. It's like saying that any current PC is based on the ENIAC because, after all, they are electronic computers. Intel tends to make evolutionary changes with each step (except as you rightly said with Netburst and other more esoteric architectures like Itanium) versus AMD's "revolutionary" changes which, incidentally, have made them stumble on several occasions.

And the proof is that the older processors from the Core 2 generation (I can't remember exactly in which generation it happens), the patches for these flaws do not penalize performance as they do with most AMD processors.
