Excellent Plasma 6 update ? The improvements in customization and the OCR integrated in Spectacle really increase productivity. Features like individual volume control per application demonstrate how modern systems continue to evolve to offer a better user experience.

Nvidia breaking funding promises, Microsoft losing 10% in stock market due to poor outlook for Azure and its AI investments, Oracle laying off 30,000 workers because banks have pulled back on funding for AI data centers, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley trying to cover their backs on debt they've taken on to fund AI data centers... this is starting to smell a little fishy.

We are always the same with the issue of speculation: whether it's graphics cards and hard drives with mining, whether it's the PS5 when it came out, now it's memory... it's incredible, history repeats itself constantly.

It is true that these are not essential things (although it is a pain for us), but the sad thing is that the same mentality ends up being applied to basic or essential goods. I like that people have the freedom to negotiate and make money, but there are points where a dominant position is blatantly abused and it stops being fair for the consumer...

Well, it looks like Intel is going to try to take advantage of this situation. If they manage to lower prices thanks to that stock, they could make a significant dent in AMD's market share, which has been putting pressure on them lately even in laptops with very good numbers.

@jordiqui I agree with you. And more so with the performance of the latest generation CPUs, they do not evolve as much from one generation to the next and take longer to become obsolete. I bought an R7 7700 and between it being cheap and, although it is not the latest generation, it is quite recent, it has been a great purchase that I am very happy with.

@Gallina En this ifixit entry they give the justification.

In summary, the negative points are that the battery is glued in place, there are important components soldered to the board, and there are stickers covering screws, making disassembly difficult.

@palotes ? I love how you explain these things Jjj

There have been some good things, like evolving a lot in the cheapening and simplification of productive methods, that is, in the massification of access to many things. But normal obsolescence, the one from before, must return for the good of all.

Besides all that has been said, it happens that the race we are carrying out so as not to destroy the planet also involves these issues, and it is never talked about much, only about fuels and the CO2 released, and it happens that unnecessary manufacturing and the poor level of recycling are a good part of the cake.

They also say they are going to ramp up their R&D in order to catch up with AMD and the lead that Samsung and company have taken; for now, I think they were talking about two more iterations and then 2nm.

A18 and A20 will be the acronyms for these Intel manufacturing technologies.

      Motorola Defy.
You no longer need Star Link or other expensive satellite services to venture into remote places without coverage. With this compact device protected at IP68 level, 600 mAh, and GPS, you will have instant messaging and an SOS button that works independently of the mobile, in any remote place or without coverage.

For $150 the bundle with annual subscription allows up to 30 bidirectional messages per month and SOS assistance.

They also mention that Motorola and Bullit smartphones will come with satellite communication.

It's a way to know if a PC with W11 is using secure boot and so on, after Microsoft has changed its mind and is putting W11 on all computers regardless of its initial requirements.
In principle it's a good idea, but since it can be overridden it stays in the category of a sticking plaster.

GB or GiB, The clear demonstration that in the early days of computing the experts got a bit carried away, we've all identified that old myth at some point, even in the cinema.

What basically happened was that as file sizes grew, computer scientists got comfortable and started expressing large values as if they were decimal values rounding with the decimal base metric scale.

Later, as file sizes increased a lot and the consequent error factor, they pulled the GiB out of their sleeve with the sole purpose of not giving in and continuing down the comfortable path, making the GiB then the mathematically correct value, and the GB that was originally the correct value becomes a mess.

However, the GiB has been rather hidden from the public. The GB currently, due to its arbitrary use, has become an ambiguous value that is calculated based on octal or decimal as you please, and the Gib is hardly used.

If we express it mathematically, misunderstandings and ambiguous social conventions that have no place in a purely mathematical discipline like computer science end, that is, a MiB is 1Byte raised to the 6th power, while 1Byte x 1,000,000 is an erroneous calculation, no matter how much the market sells it to us as 1 byte raised to the 6th power.

The funniest thing is when some forum member comes along and tells you that how dare you question the engineers you poor mortal ? ?

PD: Currently for Google (and for most apparently) the iB (KiB, GiB etc) is now the mathematically correct (1 KiB = a 1024 Bytes), and the B (KB, GB etc) is for commercial use and is worth x thousand (1 KB = a 1000 B). Remember also that the Byte is expressed with a capital B (kilobyte = kB), and the bit with a lowercase b (kilobit = kb).

As a curious fact, the wireless Telex already sent data by air, surely before that time. It is closer to a fax than to a 56K modem but it was the first wireless data method for the general public (for companies with money at the beginning, let's go).
