@Yorus Totally. The video acceleration in Firefox for Linux is insane. I've had a few computers, as you say, from budget ranges where the difference between Windows and Linux was significant for this detail. On laptops it will be beneficial in all ranges for battery reasons.

Look, Windows XP was one of my favorite S.O.s... but Win 7 was the best for me, and with the 10 giving so much trouble forever, I think we're going to miss it a lot ?

      Greetings!!

Well, I've only been using DDR4 for barely two years (at home I have DDR3 and 2 to get bored, also some DDR1) and it feels like a distant memory to use this type of memory yet ?

But well, advances and technology do not stop!

We'll see the prices and the impact on performance they will offer.

@Gallina I suppose you mean GNU/Linux. Stallman has given it the free software cover, but the technical person behind the development is Torvalds. As far as I know, RMS has never contributed code to the kernel. One is the philosopher and the other is the technician. What is more important in Linux is already a personal matter for each one.

The idea that Android is useless without Google services is quite debatable. Regarding the news, it's scary to see the three musketeers joining forces for this.

      6th Generation Core 7th Generation Core 8th Generation Core 9th Generation Core 10th Generation Core Xeon E3 V5 Xeon E3 V6 Xeon E-2100 Xeon E-2200

And for now it seems almost impossible to exploit it remotely.

These are the things that happen when one of the leaders of a standard, insists on ruining it to favor their new standard, but is exposed and ends up implementing their protocol in the new developments of the "old".

I haven't seen it either, guys. I noticed that it could go up in price years ago and that's what happened. I also upgraded my RAM because I saw that the 2x4GB DDR3 modules that fit (same model, for compatibility reasons) were a good price, around 60€ at home, and after 2 months they were around 20€ more expensive. The thing is that in the end I bought a little bit because of the fear of a price increase and compatibility, and for bad habits I think I would have done just as well with 8GB. Now I see people rushing to get 2x16GB for the same purpose, and sure the price per mega is good but, I don't think it's worth oversizing (and even less so out of fear), you can always add more later. P.D.: The Chinese are eating us xD They won't have it easy in this oligopoly of 3 but, if they succeed and lower prices, I won't complain ?

TSX (Transactional Synchronization Extensions) is used to improve performance when running multiple threads simultaneously. It appeared with Haswell in 2013. If it is deactivated, it can cause losses of up to 40% (which was the improvement that Intel announced) although the benchmark tests that have been done so far are demonstrating that in reality it did not improve performance too much. In the end, it is going to be demonstrated that some of these extensions were nothing more than marketing. On the other hand, it seems that this failure and those that are to come related to Hyper Threading are going to penalize performance when running programs with intensive use of multithreading.

@gallina Same as TinyCore and the rest of the programs: using the IDE-USB adapter. With TinyCore I'm not sure if the problem was the removal of the Dynamic Drive Ovelay or something else. On Debian it's clear that there is not enough memory. About compiling, i686 is P6 (Pentium Pro). The Pentium 2 is a Pentium Pro with MMX so as long as you have enough memory, you're good.

It's not that the improvement is huge, but a boot time that is 5 seconds better is a considerable improvement. Going from 472 to 480fps is also not a big deal, about a 2% improvement. But putting it into perspective, an improvement like this with just a bios seems like a big deal to me.

@krampak I'm not entirely sure how to handle this. The idea of doing mini-reviews in the test bench thread in the end has made it impossible to locate a specific model and there's a mix of stories that don't make much sense.

This way, the one who has the CPU in question has the opportunity to give their impressions, do their own mini-review or whatever and keep everything more organized.

This of putting a doggy screen protector, and then registering the fingerprint on it, is like putting a combination lock, and then leaving all the roulettes with the correct combination except one, to save time.

I bet that Samsung's patch will be mostly about putting a lot of signs with warnings about the use of unofficial screen protectors.

We'll see how the issue evolves.
