[Review by ELP3] AMD Radeon FURY X

How's it going Fjavi ;D
Alright, it's "only" 4GB... But with a giant bus and latencies close to zero... damn, something isn't working as they expected...
Greetings Handrox, long time no see, I'm doing well, just a bit disconnected from this.
As for the giant bus, I don't see much benefit, except for pushing 3 or 4K where the bandwidth can stand out or offload the CPU a bit, but the 4GB will limit it.
Also, I don't think a 390X would be short on bandwidth, because the 970s have much less and the 960 would seem ridiculous in terms of bandwidth.
I think this HBM is a bit green, it must be expensive and has a big limitation for being 1GB, it should already be 2GB per chip. With one of these and looking for playable configurations, maybe I can go with those 4GB, but seeing the nonsense of games they release in terms of memory consumption and optimization, I certainly think even 6GB of a 980Ti seems like too little, although of course, talking about 4K and 3-card configurations.
For me, who continues at 1080p, and seeing what's happening, I think it will take a long time to change resolutions, because it's a huge expense that ends up with most games having a thousand bugs.
That Digitalstorm guy must have smoked something, the Heaven thing I don't believe it, there's another user who has also passed the Heaven and honestly, I find it strange that they outperform a 980Ti in that, if we see that even the 980 with OC is already getting close to the Ti and even more so the Titan X will stand out in that, and a 980 will never overshadow them.
regards
@Patagonico:The issue is that for 4K with 1 graphics card you can't do anything like that, so the playability will be far from desired, AMD doesn't have W10 drivers yet, which NVIDIA already has certified drivers
Windows 10 is Game Ready for "Batman: Arkham Knight" | The Official NVIDIA Blog
Perhaps when the official drivers for W10 are out, a CF can measure up by adding their memories, I'm still waiting to see how my SLI 980 works by adding the Titan if I can fit the 3 graphics cards, anyway, there will be people who do their benchmarks and clear my doubts.-
Regards.-
Hopefully that adding memory will work because otherwise the graphics memory will surpass the system's, we'll need more.
Lately, I don't want to put more than one card, if you already have to fight with one, for the games they release, two is not appealing to me.I hope W10 runs well, but things they do like the last Batman, where they outsource the port to a few programmers without resources, they make a cutreport and then it's up to patches and drivers to fix it, well, the truth is that it's best to play when it costs €10 or less, as they may have already fixed most of the bugs.

Digital storm is a company dedicated to modding and Ultra OC. They sell computers at outrageous prices, putting in the best parts and assembling them.
Therefore, that "review" must be of a Fury messed up by them. Although I don't know what they could have messed up, because there's not much left... but they must have done "something".
I have no doubt about their professionalism, but I do have doubts about their impartiality, because looking at their computers, all the configurations I've seen start with an Intel Core + nVIDIA, so I have no reason to believe those bar graphs, without providing any additional information to back them up.
Everyone is free to believe what they want, but let's keep talking about your direct experience with the card, and avoid letting the fanboys of one side or the other fill this up with benchmarks without cross-checking.
Salu2!

Hello, I'm glad to "see" you, I hadn't read ELP3 in a long time. Disappointment, that's the only thing that comes to mind. I expected more, I really like its compact size, its integrated liquid, the new memory.... but fps are fps, and as I always say, my religion forbids me to lose frames. Now I'm at 2K with a GTX 970 SLI, I hoped that a Fury X would surpass it, but it's clear that it doesn't, not even a 980TI achieves it in brute force. The good side, my wallet, will be resting until Pascal ;D Best regards -
Well, I've also been disconnected from all that hahaha How good to see you all.. it's been a long time since we talked hahaha
So what can I say about the Fiji, it seems like it lacks the power to use all that bandwidth… I think AMD took a big step in the wrong direction, I would have waited for the next node to start with HBM, with a more populated and powerful chip.. that double Tonga wasn't enough... regards..
What I think is that AMD got caught a bit off guard, because I suppose they were planning to manufacture at 20nm, but in the end that TSMC process is disastrous and they had no choice but to go with what they had.
Nvidia gave up that process a long time ago and Maxwell gives them the advantage of having very good performance per watt
But it's bad for competition and prices which is what matters, this is what AMD should have done when Nvidia launched the 970 and 980, I'm not talking about the Fury but the 300 series, they should have launched them earlier.
regards

Hey Mr. Pepillo!
What a joy to hear from good people..;)
Well no, the truth is that nvidia hit the nail on the head with the maxwell, and despite the mess of the 3,5+0,5GB. that SLI with what it oceans, vale, and spends…has no rival for 2K resolutions. That little card is a delight.
A big hug Pepillo, I'm very happy to hear from you again.

I suffer from the same stuttering issue you mentioned in Witcher 3, both with a 780ti and with my tri sli, it's not a matter of power, since the fps are very high, it's about optimization and drivers.
Honestly, I have hope that through drivers things will improve, not just for fps, but for smoothness and consistency, I can't believe they would release a product with such problems …
But well, NVidia has been doing things wrong for quite some time, 970 with its vram and for months with the drivers, kepler bug (probably on purpose) and now with the 980ti and titan x a lot of people with Tdr and brutal fps drops.
The GeForce forums are on fire XD.
Anyway, when you have the time and desire, test games so that we can at least compare XD.
Best regards, dude!!!

Wow, how long has it been since I last came here, it's great to see so many good people.
And what can I say about Elp3, a genius as always, the hours he's spent doing tests, he usually comments on other channels about the new features and what they are and as always without making a mistake, he gets it all right dude ;D
And about the Fury, what can I say, I'm one of those who hoped they would be good, at least against the 980 TI but I see that's not the case, at least for now and possibly for the same reason as always, the drivers, you can't go 6 months without updating them :mad:Anyway, a great comparison and as always many thanks Elp3.

Cheers everyone.

Hello ELP3 and CIA, long time no see :D. It seems that the itch is somewhat restless with the heat because I have been bitten again too, xDDD. After a period full of events and brutal expenses (Flat, furniture, wedding…) and the more or less return to tranquility I am compiling information to build a new PC :D.
From what I have seen on various websites and in the enormously useful review of the compi ELP3, as is customary for him :D, the wait for the release of this new Fury X has not personally been worth it. I think the GTX 980ti will definitely be the option for this summer.
Greetings to all, what a pleasure it is to read you again :D.

Hello txemote long time no see, we always come back here but I'm increasingly reluctant to buy any hardware, not only because it's expensive but also because the games turn out badly.
If I get the itch for those Maxwells because they seem to be going up well, but in the end I hope because the graphics cards are getting to prices never seen before, that's why lately I think more about spending.
Regards
Also greetings to Jotole, Alcor, Pepillo and everyone who hasn't been seen for a while -

Vaya..
The "old guard" is back
It's a pleasure to read you all.
As I say, it's always good to have good people...;)
A hug to all...
Especially to txemote, who has already married us! haha
You have nothing to expect...xD
A hug to all.
P.D.
All the reviews of Fury have already come out, you have already seen that they coincide more or less with what I put, and do not expect anything more, because I do not have it anymore..
-
You liked it little or it was borrowed XD.

Such old guard that even the most reckless fall down under the altar….:troll:
Your card didn't last long, I suppose it was borrowed, because for a return it would be a record time. Although, seeing that performance and price, the experiment loses "the charm" because you can't get much more out of it, and knowing the TitanX or GTX 980 Ti in performance and "tinkering".... there's not much more to say, except:
AMD, LOWER the prices.
That's the only lifeline for this model and others. I don't know why they went crazy with the prices in these launches, I don't know what the people in charge were thinking. This way you can't compete from a minority position in the market. That only works when you dominate it, it goes without saying (and nvidia knows it perfectly).
-
Wow so many people I know :risitas:
Greetings to all jejejeje.I think they would have to lower the price a lot to justify them, maybe it's a matter of drivers, but they don't perform as expected (at least as they had advertised them as "Titan hunters x" lol) not even at the level of the Ti.
On top of that there's the issue of the interposer that connects the chip with the HBM ram, which turns out to be as delicate as possible and if you remove the heatsink and don't clean the thermal paste carefully, you'll fry the chip quickly, according to what I read in several places.Greetings. ;D

I hope this helps to add more memory because otherwise the graphics memory will surpass that of the system, we will need more.

I was always a monogpu guy but the resolution commands and with 4K I started with SLI GTX 980 which performed quite similar to the Titan or a little better with 1 graphic, in most games SLI moves around 40fps with drops to 30fps.
If DX12 delivers on that 50% improvement it could be close to 60 fps otherwise I would add the Titan to test, 3 for me unthinkable a while ago.
I would also like to see if in W10 the memories of these Fury X achieve some improvement in a CF against the traditional DDR5 memory of a CF 390X, say.
Regards.-

By Facebook, on the AMD page.. hahaha it's for laughing not crying..
Harima Kenji I'm really shocked with this card, first it doesn't beat the 980ti which pisses me off, second you put a fucking water kit and don't cool the phases? are you serious? 104 degrees under load? it's normal that you can handle overclocking, seriously your engineers are fucking awesome
-
Crack XD, truths as fists … Seeing the reviews, I've missed the hype, we'll see if it's the same with dx12...
-
For sure, the best thing out there in reviews. Only 4K, though.
Paraphrasing Ballmer: Controllers, controllers, controllers.Confirms what ELP3 says, although they make a very conservative critique - well done, on the other hand, after all, their job is not to rant.

And many thanks, ELP3 for bothering to do your preview.

Since they are testing, they could update drivers, the 353.06 improve something in kepler and the 353.30 another step more, according to nvidia they are correcting bugs... I lean towards the idea that they have been capping performance to favor maxwell and thus sell something more, details like not including more than mid-range of the 7 series in the datasheet of the 350.12 and the reviews that have been done by users betray them XD.
Nowadays, no one is safe.
